Representações sociais de estudantes universitários relativamente a pessoas deficientes intelectuais

Abstract

Com o presente estudo pretendeu-se aprofundar a temática da deficiência intelectual, nomeadamente as representações sociais de estudantes universitários acerca deste tema. Realizou-se uma breve revisão de literatura, através da qual foi possível considerar que não só os estudos acerca da deficiência são escassos, como nos estudos até agora efetuados as imagens e perceções acerca das pessoas deficientes são maioritariamente negativas. Esta investigação teve, assim, como principal objetivo compreender se estas perceções negativas persistem. Deste modo, pediu-se aos participantes que respondessem a seis questões abertas, criando uma história ou situação na qual o deficiente intelectual é o ator principal. Com a informação recolhida procedeu-se a uma análise de conteúdo, na qual três juízes independentes categorizaram o conteúdo das respostas. Os resultados obtidos traduzem-se numa imagem da pessoa deficiente intelectual pautada pela dependência e necessidade de atenção.

The present study aimed to deepening the knowledge about intellectual disability, mainly the social representations of university students on the subject. We held a brief literature review, through which it was possible to consider that studies about disabilities are rare, and those who exist so far, carry out that the images and perceptions about people with disabilities are mostly negative. This research therefore had the main goal of understand if these negative perceptions persist. Thus, we asked the participants to answer six open questions with the purpose of creating a story or situation in which a person with intellectual disability is the main actor. With the information gathered we proceeded to a content analysis, in which three independent judges categorized the content of the answers. The results translate into an image of intellectually disabled person guided by dependence and the need for attention.
