Castro Alves na cultura brasileira

Abstract

Poeta brasileiro, mas também universal pelas grandes causas políticas e sociais defendidas, Castro Alves é uma das grandes vozes épicas e líricas de seu tempo. Sua entrega ardente e apaixonada à causa do abolicionismo conferiu-lhe o epíteto de “Poeta dos Escravos”. Mas nem só por sua luta em favor da Abolição, o poeta ficou na memória brasileira. Seus amores, sua beleza, seu estilo de dândi, conferiram-lhe perfis que o carnaval, os quadrinhos, o cinema, o teatro, a poesia, o romance biográfico, a literatura de cordel, enfim, as várias manifestações culturais do Brasil cristalizaram. Relendo as várias biografias dedicadas ao poeta e estudando as manifestações culturais que o contemplam, pretende o presente estudo identificar os traços com que Castro Alves permanece na recordação dos brasileiros.

A Brazilian poet, but also universal for defending great political and social causes, Castro Alves is one of the great epic and lyrical voices of his time. The poet’s passionate commitment fighting for the abolition of slavery in Brazil, bestowed upon him the epithet of “Poet of the Slaves”. Although well known for is abolitionist ideals, he did not stay in the Brazilian memory for that one reason. His love life, charms, dandy style gave him several profiles crystallized by different cultural Brazilian manifestations, such as: carnival, comic books, cinema, theatre, poetry, biographical novel, cordel literature. Therefore, this study aims to identify which of Castro Alves traits’ prevail in the memory of the Brazilian people, through the rereading of several biographies dedicated to the poet and the study of the cultural manifestations that praise him.
