O Ensino de Línguas Estrangeiras com recurso a Temas de Cidadania Ativa

Abstract

This report was carried out in the scope of the pedagogical internship comprised in the Master’s Degree in English and Foreign Language Teaching in grades 7-12, in the area of specialization of French.In this work, it is presented a critical reflection that has its genesis in the French and English classes taught in two classes of the 8th and 9th grades, respectively. Throughout the internship, the aforementioned classes were applied to the research topic I address in this report, namely “the use of citizenship themes”.I therefore reflect in this report on the relevance of addressing major citizenship themes and how they can be a resource that boosts learning, since they can trigger the students’ interest and therefore, increase their motivation in learning foreign languages.When choosing and preparing the documents related to the topics of active citizenship to be used in the classroom, it was essential to tactfully consider the adaptation of the materials according to the classes, which differed not only in maturity level but also in language level. Likewise, it was important to diversify and adapt the strategies implemented.Overall, and given the limitations that prevented me from carrying out a more in-depth study, the conclusions drawn from this empirical reflection indicate that this resource may prove advantageous, especially because it addresses current content that is also in line with the interests of students in the age groups concerned. However, only a larger sample size would make it possible to achieve more reliable results.

O presente Relatório de Estágio foi realizado no âmbito do Mestrado em Ensino de Inglês e de Língua Estrangeira no 3º Ciclo do Ensino Básico e no Ensino Secundário, na área de especialização de Francês.Neste trabalho, é apresentada uma reflexão crítica que tem na sua génese as aulas de Francês e de Inglês lecionadas em duas turmas de 8º ano e de 9º ano respetivamente. Ao longo do estágio, as aulas acima mencionadas foram objeto de aplicação do tema de investigação que abordo neste relatório, a saber, “o recurso a temas de cidadania”. Reflito, por conseguinte, sobre a pertinência em abordar temas de cidadania em aulas de língua estrangeira e sobre o seu papel enquanto impulsionadores das aprendizagens e elemento motivador da aprendizagem de línguas estrangeiras.Na escolha e preparação dos documentos relativos aos temas de cidadania ativa, a serem utilizados em sala de aula, foi essencial considerar cuidadosamente a adaptação dos materiais, tendo em conta tanto o nível de maturidade como também o nível de língua das turmas. De igual modo, revelou-se importante diversificar, bem como adequar as estratégias implementadas.De modo amplo, e atendendo às limitações que me impediram de realizar um estudo mais profundo, as conclusões retiradas desta reflexão de índole empírica indicam que de facto este recurso se pode revelar vantajoso, sobretudo pelo facto de abordar conteúdos atuais consonantes também com os interesses dos/as alunos/as das faixas etárias em questão. Contudo, somente uma amostra de tamanho maior tornaria possível alcançar resultados mais fidedignos.
