dc.description.abstract | The main objective of this dissertation is to present the extraordinary set of monumental pulvini in the capital of Civitas dos Igaeditani. These elements reveal a clear importance as they constitute one of the main material indicators of the presence of the funerary structures that would crown the so-called “masoleums in the form of an altar with pulvini”. Thus, the expressive presence of these elements reinforces the existence of these monumenta sepucralis in Igaedis. This reality is not yet attested by the identification of the primary contexts of use to which these crowns would be associated. We added to the set already known and published by D. Fernando de Almeida in 1956 and Gustav Gamer in 1989, around four dozen copies that remained unpublished until now.In this work, we present the results of the study developed around these decorative architectural elements, which is essentially characterized by their identification, cataloguing, description and analysis. Simultaneously with its identification and accounting, we proceed to its insertion in the defined typological framework. As we will see, this Igaeditano group presents, within its formal and ornamental varieties, a homogeneous formal and decorative grammar, very similar to the other examples inscribed in the province of Lusitânia, where the Emeritense group stands out. Although these testimonies of the perpetuation of memory derive from an “italic model”, they represent, through their formal and decorative grammar, a strong indigenous plastic tradition. This “mutation” of the “italic model” observed in the “lusitan monumental pulvini” makes them very distinct within the Hispano-Roman reality. | eng |
