Setúbal Negra - Aplicativo para percurso urbano sobre a presença negra na cidade de Setúbal

Abstract

“A Presença Negra na Cidade de Setúbal, Séc. XV–XVIII” é um percurso urbano criado em 2019 por uma equipa de docentes da Escola Superior de Educação do Instituto Politécnico de Setúbal (ESE-IPS) em parceria com a Câmara Municipal de Setúbal. O roteiro, criado no quadro do Roteiro para uma Educação Antirracista, consiste numa visita guiada a vários locais da cidade relacionados com a presença negra em Setúbal entre os séculos XV e XVIII, “desocultando um passado invisibilizado da cidade” (Alcântara, Roldão e Cruz, 2019-a). Como resultado de uma investigação histórica e sociológica, o roteiro constitui-se como “uma contranarrativa às continuidades coloniais e eurocêntricas na memória sobre a cidade e a ancestralidade dos/as setubalenses de hoje” (idem). O roteiro encontra-se atualmente disponível a visitantes de Setúbal através de um folheto-mapa distribuído por vários locais da cidade (Alcântara, Roldão e Cruz, 2019-b).No âmbito da presente dissertação de Mestrado, foi desenvolvida uma versão digital do referido roteiro. O formato escolhido foi o de uma aplicação com georreferenciação para dispositivos móveis, sendo os conteúdos transmitidos por áudio, aproximando o resultado a um audiowalk. Para o resultado final, foi desenvolvida uma versão mais experimental e “poética”, sendo os conteúdos históricos trabalhados a nível do seu potencial narrativo, transmitidos por vozes narradoras e pontuados com texturas sonoras e faixas de música. Tal como no roteiro original, o objetivo principal desta aplicação é o de sensibilizar o público em geral para o lado esquecido das comunidades negras como parte integrante da história da cidade.

“The Black Presence in the City of Setúbal, 15th–18th century” is an urban route created in 2019 by a team of teachers from the Higher School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (ESE-IPS) in partnership with the City Council of Setúbal. The route, created within the framework of the Roadmap for an Anti-Racist Education, consists of a guided visit to various places in town related to the Black presence in Setúbal between the 15th and 18th centuries, “unveiling the city’s invisible past” (Alcântara, Roldão and Cruz, 2019-a). As a result of a historical and sociological research, the route constitutes “a counter-narrative to the colonial and Eurocentric continuities in the memory of the city and the ancestry of the inhabitants of Setúbal of today” (idem). The route is currently available to visitors to Setúbal through a leaflet-map distributed in various locations in town (Alcântara, Roldão and Cruz, 2019-b).Within the scope of this Master’s thesis, a digital version of the aforementioned route was developed. The format chosen was that of an app with georeference for mobile devices, with the contents transmitted by audio, bringing the result closer to an audiowalk. For the final result, a more experimental and “poetic” version was developed, with the historical content being worked on at the level of its narrative potential, being transmitted by narrating voices and punctuated with sound textures and music tracks. As in the original route, the main objective of this app is to raise awareness among the general public to the forgotten side of Black communities as an integral part of the town’s history.
