Escrever para Ser: o mythos do envelhecimento na obra de Vergílio Ferreira

Abstract

O presente trabalho de investigação, inscrito na linha de Poética e Hermenêutica, baseia-­‐se num autor contemporâneo português. Sob o prisma “Escrever para ser”: o mythos do envelhecimento na obra de Vergílio Ferreira”, centraremos com maior incidência a análise do nosso filão temático nos romances Para Sempre (1983) e Em Nome da Terra (1990). Enquadrados os referidos romances no contexto próprio do autor, considerar-­‐se-­‐á, metodologicamente, a necessidade de revisitar, na diarística e no ensaio, os horizontes do seu pensamento para uma melhor compreensão das obras analisadas em detalhe e do que nelas se cristaliza, em forma narrativa, da angústia e da interrogação sobre o processo de degenerescência do corpo, do envelhecimento, do abandono e do anúncio da morte. Tanto no romance Em Nome da Terra, como em Para Sempre, o autor destina as personagens principais a iniciarem um trajecto de recuperação da memória ‘ficcionalizada’ do passado. Importa, desde já, assinalar que se em sede literária vergiliana este é um traço da sua escrita, marcada pela evocação do Passado, em sede filosófica, a questão mereceu o interesse de muitos filósofos e conheceu sucessivas releituras. O nosso estudo contempla, por isso mesmo, a dimensão catártica da escrita, não só para o autor, como para o narrador e para o leitor, graças à humanidade que ambos partilham. Vergílio Ferreira constrói as suas personagens em consonância com a ideia de sobrevivência através da escrita-­‐memória, cuja capacidade de resgate subjaz transversalmente a toda a sua obra. São estes momentos privilegiados em que a consciência de si e do seu Presente é plena e em que a reflexão sobre o drama do envelhecimento se agudiza.

This research work is integrated in the domain of Poetics and Hermeneutics and focuses on a contemporary Portuguese author. Under the perspective “To write in order to be": the mythos of aging in the work of Vergílio Ferreira”, our thematic analysis will be focused particularly on the novels Para Sempre ("Forever" -­‐ 1983) and Em Nome da Terra ("In The Name of The Earth" -­‐ 1990). After contextualising these novels in the author’s work, we consider, methodologically, the need to revisit, in his journals and essays, the horizons of his thinking. This allows us to try to better understand the novels we are reviewing in detail, as well as what is crystalized in them, in a narrative form: the ideas of anguish, of questioning the body aging process, of abandonment and of the announcement of death. Both in Em Nome da Terra and Para Sempre, the author makes the main characters start a path of recovering "fictionalized" memories from the past. It is important to note that, amongst Vergilian literature academics, this is a characteristic of the author's writing, which is marked by the evocation of the Past, while amongst Philosophy academics, many philosophers have taken interest in this matter, which has been successively discussed. Therefore, our work covers the cathartic dimension of writing, not only to the writer, but also to the narrator and the reader, due to the humanity that they all share. Vergílio Ferreira builds his characters according to the idea of survival through memory-­‐writing, which allows for a retrieval of memories that help the characters to survive. This capacity of retrieval is transversally present throughout the author's work. It's in these privileged moments when there is a complete consciousness of oneself and of one's Present that the cogitation about the aging drama intensifies.
