Abstract: Formally acknowledged in 2010, the human right to water reveals an increasing commitment to guaranteeing the universality of access to water for domestic uses, in accordance to the targets set in both the Millennium Development Goals and Sustainable Development Goals. However, countries' fulfillment of the goal to provide access to improved water sources varies. Investing in infrastructures or education and promoting women's access to formal jobs are expected to increase the access to improved water sources, especially in more urbanized areas.
