Pensar a Literatura Infantil em Portugal: arquivo dos estudos publicados no século XX

Abstract

Dada a importância que a literatura infantil desempenha (ou deve desempenhar) na formação do indivíduo em termos literários e de iniciação à leitura, mas também em termos cívicos e de consolidação de valores essenciais para a vida em sociedade, este trabalho pretende ser mais uma colaboração para os estudos sobre literatura infantil que timidamente pautam o campo maior dos estudos literários. Esta dissertação divide-se em dois blocos essenciais: uma primeira parte, destinada à contextualização do tema, na qual são postos em relevância aspetos que me parecem primordiais e incontornáveis sobre literatura infantil e que, de alguma forma, justificam a escolha deste tema (nomeadamente comprovar a desvalorização de que tem sido alvo); e um último momento, o mais importante e o centro de toda a pesquisa, que corresponde ao arquivo de estudos publicados sobre literatura infantil na imprensa do século XX. Este arquivo, que se inicia nesta dissertação mas que carece de continuidade fora dela (é um projeto em constante atualização), é pioneiro e pretende, acima de tudo, trazer a debate um importante espólio ensaístico que permanece ainda desconhecido. O objetivo desta investigação é, portanto, dar a conhecer de que forma a literatura infantil foi divulgada na imprensa, por forma a compreender a relevância atribuída pelos colaboradores a este tema (principalmente em comparação a outros assuntos do domínio literário) e abrir novas discussões, reunindo aos temas atuais aqueles que no passado já atormentariam os pesquisadores.

Given the importance that children's literature plays (or must play) in terms of literary knowledge and literacy formation, but also in civic terms and in the consolidation of essential values for life in society, this work aims to be another effort for studies on children's literature who shyly appear in the fields of literary studies. This dissertation is divided in two essential blocks: a first part, destined to the contextualization of the subject, in which are put in relevance aspects that seem to me primordial and unavoidable on children's literature and that, in some way, justify the choice of this theme (namely to prove the devaluation it has been subjected to); and one last moment, the most important and the center of all research, which corresponds to the archive of published studies on children's literature in the 20th century press. This archive, which begins in this dissertation but lacks continuity outside it (it is a constantly updated project), is pioneering and aims above all to bring to debate on children's literature an important collection of essays that remains unknown to this day. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to make known the way children's literature was divulged in the 20th century press, in order to understand the relevance attributed by the specialists to this topic (especially in comparison to other subjects of the literary domain) and to open the field to new discussions, bringing together current themes with those that in the past would already torment the reseachers.
