Abstract

A hipertensão pulmonar é uma patologia que afeta cerca de 1% da população mundial e que constitui um problema de saúde global. Atualmente, estão disponíveis terapêuticas para algumas formas raras de hipertensão pulmonar, especialmente para a hipertensão arterial pulmonar e para a hipertensão pulmonar por tromboembolismo crónico. Não existe terapêutica direcionada à circulação pulmonar para o tratamento das outras formas de hipertensão pulmonar, muito mais frequentes, nas quais se procura tratar as possíveis causas subjacentes. Os canais mecano-sensíveis são estruturas que atuam como mecano-transdutores com capacidade de responderem a estímulos mecânicos. Estudos sugerem que estes canais poderão ter um papel importante na hipertensão pulmonar.Na sequência desta monografia, pretende-se abordar alguns conceitos básicos acerca da hipertensão pulmonar e do papel dos canais mecano-sensíveis na patologia, focando especificamente os canais Piezo recentemente descobertos.Pulmonary hypertension is a pathology that affects about 1% of the world population and is considered a global health problem. Treatments are currently available for some of the rare forms of pulmonary hypertension, especially for pulmonary arterial hypertension and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. There is no treatment directed at the pulmonary circulation for the treatment of the remaining much more frequent forms of pulmonary hypertension, in which the treatment consists in treating the possible underlying causes. Mechano-sensitive channels act as mechanical transducers with the ability to respond to mechanical stimuli. Studies suggest that these channels may play a key role in pulmonary hypertension. This monograph aims to describe the basic concepts about pulmonary hypertension and the role of mechano-sensitive channels in the pathology, emphasizing the recently discovered Piezo channel.
