Title: | A recepção da obra de arte pela fotografia | Other Titles: | The reception of artwork through photography | Authors: | Garcia, Vítor José Ramos | Orientador: | Carvalho, José Augusto Maçãs da Silva | Keywords: | Fotografia; Recepção da obra de arte; Percepção; Iluminação; Luz e sombra; Photography Light and Shadow.; Work of Art’s Reception; Perception; Lighting; Light and Shadow | Issue Date: | 26-Sep-2017 | Serial title, monograph or event: | A recepção da obra de arte pela fotografia | Place of publication or event: | Colégio das Artes da Universidade de Coimbra | Abstract: | The aim of this dissertation is to focus on the analysis of the documentation and diffusion process of artwork through photography, giving importance to a type of photographic register that, without having a negative effect on its documental purpose, can be rightfully considered as an artistic approach. With this in mind, special attention will be given to the analysis of the properties of light, the control mechanisms that allow its adjustment on the photography equipment, as well as the use of auxiliary lighting in the exhibition area. After a brief historical contextualization of the documental use of photography when it was first invented, there is an examination of the technical aspects of the act of photography which constitute the theoretical substantiation of the photographical approach that is proposed. Among other relevant issues to this assignment, the first section also discusses perception, the development of the methods of mechanical reproduction, the ways of seeing a work of art that, through photography, are not just representations of reality, as well as the framework, that provides a particular insight. Attention is also given to the way light and shadow have been interpreted and exploited, in particular in the artistic field. As a practical supplement to this theoretical description, the second part of this dissertation consists of a photographic essay, where at least two images are presented: one which is as close as possible from what the observer sees in the exhibition area, and another which consists in the interpretation of the artistic object through light modulation. |
