Sports training and specially the youth sport have suffered many changes in the last decades. For many years the sport initiation took place on the street and the motor background was developed through free play. The motor background attained on the street was then used by sports system, letting the natural selection take its course integrating the most able and specializing them. The street, by many socioeconomic factors had lost its role as the main stage for free play and this fact leads to early association to sports training in only one sport. With the growth of the sports phenomena the intervention in the learning process of sports has become more and more systematized, but in many cases to close to the adult sports training programs. As the educational process developed arose the pedagogical concerns about the work with children in learning, leading to high structured and specialized activities. However, this fact may have had a toll in the variability, freedom and inherent motivation of the activities it selves leading in many cases to drop out. The present work serves the propose reviewing the literature in order to understand the factors involved in the motor development of children and their sports learning process. Approach the relationship between the two key players in the sports learning process, children and coach/professor, as well as the theoretical models and concerns that have to be attained about physical literacy and sports initiation. The last part of the work consists of an operational proposal for this beginning stage of development, willing to promote a physical literacy and sports initiation as diversified and non-specialized as possible, but essentially to encourage fun, motivation and the variability of sports learning and practices, fighting against the findings of some research that claim that the lack of fun and motivation are becoming the main factors for dropping out of sports.
