Over the years there has been an increase in the waste production, responsible for numerous environmental impacts, resulting in the need to minimize their production, ensuring sustainable management. Therefore, the need arises for implementation of techniques for recycling and reuse of waste, in order to be of benefit both environmentally and energetically, being an example the creation of Waste Management Hierarchy. In the present study will be developed, tested and evaluated different brake pads, mainly consisting of two residues resulting from the fragmentation of vehicles at the end of life and graphite electrodes at the end of life. This waste, which had ultimately for the landfill, were recycled and reused in order to serve respectively raw material base and additive for the formation of a new product – brake pads. Two key tests allowed to assess the friction coefficient, the frictional force and the wear rate: Pin-on-Disk and FAST. The addition of graphite to the metallic waste does not induce large performance changes in brake pad relative to the friction coefficient. This, in turn, permitted to amend the temperature of friction between the brake pad and the disc. However, wear significantly decreased with the increase of the solid lubricant present. The resin played an important role in the binding action of the various constituents however, that, when subjected to high temperatures, loses its leading thus disaggregating the remaining materials. |
