Estudo retrospectivo de casos de Apexificação com ProRoot® MTA

Abstract

Introdução: Dentes com ápice aberto, que necessitam de tratamento endodôntico são um desafio para o Médico Dentista. Este estudo retrospectivo avaliou o sucesso de uma série de casos tratados pela técnica de apexificação com ProRoot® MTA. Material e Métodos: De 30 doentes, foram controlados 35 dentes, tratados entre 2002 e 2012, pela técnica de apexificação com ProRoot® MTA na Clínica do Mestrado Integrado em Medicina Dentária da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Coimbra. O tempo decorrido após o tratamento, até ao último controlo, foi 10 anos no máximo e 3 meses no mínimo, com uma média de 1 ano e 9 meses. Foram controlados parâmetros clínicos e radiográficos. Após recolha de dados, estes foram analisados recorrendo à versão 19 do programa informático Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Resultados: Dos 35 dentes incluídos no estudo, 94.3% apresentaram sucesso clínico e radiográfico. Existem diferenças estatisticamente significativas entre o Índice Periapical pré-operatório e o Índice Periapical pós-operatório (p < 0.001). Conclusão: Os resultados suportam a utilização de ProRoot® MTA na técnica de apexificação para dentes com ápice aberto. Introduction: Teeth with an open apex that need to be submitted to endodontic treatment pose a challenge to the clinical practitioner. This retrospective study has evaluated the success rate of clinical case series that were submitted to endodontic therapy using the apexification technique with ProRoot® MTA. Materials and Methods: From a total of 30 patients, 35 teeth were evaluated, which were submitted to endodontic therapy using the apexification technique with ProRoot® MTA in the period comprehended between 2002 and 2012 in the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra – Area of Dentistry. These teeth were later evaluated in a control appointment. The time elapsed between the evaluated treatment and the last control appointment was, in the maximum, 10 years, and, in the minimum 3 months, with an average of 1 year and 9 months postoperative time. Clinical and radiographical parameters were analyzed in the controlled appointment. After collecting the data, it was analyzed using version 19 of Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Results: In the 35 teeth included in the study, 94.3% showed clinical and radiographical success. There are statistically significant differences between the values of preoperative Periapical Index and postoperative Periapical Index (p <0.001). Conclusion: The results support the clinical use of ProRoot® MTA in the apexification technique in teeth with an open apex.
