The Iberian Peninsula has been a place of passage and fixation for various populations. Among them were the Romans and "barbarians", early Christian populations. Thanks to today's rescue archaeological work since the turn of the century, necropolis dating from the IV to VIII centuries AD have been exposed. In the city of Santarem the most studied findings are related to the Islamic, medieval and modern periods, and information on other chronologies are very rare. The main objective of this dissertation is to deepen the knowledge about the early Christian populations who inhabited Santarém between the fourth and fifth centuries and centuries VI and VIII AD, adding a little more data already known. The sample consists of 8 Visigoth tombs and 15 late Roman graves. It should be noted that there is uncertainty about the dating of some burials that require radiocarbon dating. The osteological remains found were quite affected by taphonomic factors such as cement agglomerations, roots, animals inflicted alterations, making the study more difficult. A further limitation was the, incomplete / stoked burials due to the opening of negative structures and pits prior to the current archaeological work. 50% (N = 8) of Visigothic graves and 20% (N = 15) the Romans late-graves were burials with more than one burial. The orientation of burial varies between EO and SENO in the Visigoth sample and EO and NE-SW in the late Roman sample. The position of the burials was dorsal decubitus. In the Visigoth sample the burials had the skull facing east. Within the Visigoth sample some votive material was recovered, including rings, earrings and offerings. The Visigoth sample is composed of 12 adults and 8 non adults (N = 20), the Roman late sample is composed of 14 adults and 9 are non adults (N = 23). Of the 8 non adult Visigoths five have an age at death between 5-13 years, one would be between 0 and 4 and one would be a teenager (14-19 years). In the late Roman sample five non adults individuals were between 0-4 years, two were between 5-13 years and one would also be a teenager. Regarding sexual diagnosis 3 Visigoths would be female and two males. The late Roman sample 6 individuals were considered female and one male, two were undetermined. The stature of the Visigoth sample varies between 160,442cm ± 8.44 and 6.90 ± 163,82cm for males based on the humerus length and femur, respectively and between 149,861cm ± 5.96 and 4.7 ± 152,663cm for females, based on femur length and 2nd metatarsal. In late Roman sample stature varies between 163,617cm ± 8.44 and 6.90 ± 167,281cm and 149,589cm ± 7.7 and ± 4.7 155,193cm, respectively. Among the post cranial discrete traits recorded the presence of septal opening, hipotrocanteriana fossa and an anterior double facet stand out. The dental discrete trait best expressed in both samples were the anterior fovea (nV = 5/12; nTR = 11/25), unlike the Carabelli cusp that showed a low expression (nV = 1/11; nTR = 1/14). Tooth wear is moderate. Two Visigoths individuals had atypical tooth wear and among the late-Roman, individual 2326 presents the most unusual wear in the second right premolar. This tooth suffered a tooth wear that led to the disappearance of the cusps and thus becoming shaped like an incisor. The registered caries are predominately found in the cervical region (nV = 8/17; nTR = 5/12). Two Visigoth individuals and four Roman individuals had tartar accumulation in more than 1/3 of the crown surface. Also noteworthy are two pathological cases. The individual 645 (visigoth) shows changes in the right humeral neck consistent with a case of humerus varus. The individual 2385 presents destructive remodeling on the hand bones, acro-osteolysiss on the foot phalanges and severe infection on the tibias, fibulas radio and left ulna. A possible diagnosis for these conditions is leprosy.
