A queda do idoso : fatores de risco e prevenção

Abstract

A queda geriátrica tem uma incidência que está a aumentar, revelando impacto biopsicossocial no idoso, pela morbilidade e mortalidade que causa. Este artigo visa abordar os principais fatores de risco de queda geriátrica, a avaliação desse risco, bem como a prevenção da ocorrência de queda. A pesquisa executada baseou-se em artigos publicados entre 2000 e 2014. Ainda assim, para incluir alguns estudos essenciais houve necessidade de prolongar este intervalo de tempo. A pesquisa efetuada demonstrou a existência de fatores de risco de queda intrínsecos e extrínsecos, cuja avaliação e análise deve ser feita com vista a adoção de uma estratégia preventiva da queda geriátrica. A estratégia preventiva é de carácter multifatorial, centrando-se na melhoria da condição do idoso e também na redução da exposição aos fatores de risco de queda

Falls in the elderly have an increasing incidence and show a biopsychosocial impact on older people’s lives owing to the morbidity and mortality they may cause. This article aims to address the main risk fators of falls in the elderly, the assessment of that risk, as well as the prevention of the occurrence of falls. The research was based on articles published between 2000 and 2014. Nevertheless, to include some essential studies, it was necessary to extend this time frame. The research showed the existence of intrinsic and extrinsic fall risk fators, whose assessment and analysis must be made with a view to the adoption of a preventive strategy of falls in the elderly. This preventive strategy is multifatorial and focused on improving the elderly condition and on reducing their exposure to the risk of falling.
