Problemas dermatológicos associados ao envelhecimento

Abstract

Este trabalho tem como principal objetivo recolher toda a informação sobre os mecanismos fisiopatológicos inerentes ao envelhecimento da pele e dos seus principais problemas, mas também integrar sob a forma de um artigo de revisão, a aplicação de conhecimentos científicos à prática clínica identificando e orientando o tratamento das várias afeções dermatológicas no idoso. Quanto à metodologia, esta incide sobre a análise e reflexão de revistas e artigos científicos publicados e de reconhecimento científico, através da utilização de vários motores de busca como a Pubmed, B-on, Biomedcentral, ScienceDirect, Medscape, entre outros, bem como recorrendo ao repositório de artigos da biblioteca dos CHUC, do Journal of The American Academy of Dermatology e outras bibliografias de referência. Com o aumento da esperança média de vida, existe um aumento da prevalência de problemas dermatológicos associados ao envelhecimento. A pele é o maior órgão do corpo humano e a principal barreira a doenças infeciosas, é o principal indicador de saúde e bem-estar. A pele é um órgão tão importante como outro qualquer, é nela que transparecem, frequentemente, os primeiros indícios de uma doença sistémica, ou, por outro lado, sinais de que um doente está a ser bem tratado. No idoso, as queixas dermatológicas tendem, na maioria dos casos, a passar para segundo plano – contudo, a manutenção da sua integridade contribuem decisivamente para a prevenção de problemas dermatológicos mais sérios e proporcionam ao idoso um maior conforto e bem-estar. Com este trabalho pretende-se estudar os mecanismos do envelhecimento intrínseco e extrínseco da pele e a sua prevenção; conhecer quais as principais queixas e sintomas dermatológicos no idoso e saber identificar atempadamente sinais de alarme; compreender as principais doenças inerentes ao envelhecimento; conhecer as manifestações cutâneas de doenças sistémicas e autoimunes; conhecer e identificar os principais problemas dermatológicos no idoso como a formação de úlceras de pressão, dermatite de estase, infeções fúngicas, virais, bacterianas e parasitárias; saber quais as principais alterações dermatológicas associadas ao envelhecimento e à exposição solar, bem como saber identificar e distinguir as várias neoplasias dermatológicas benignas e malignas; saber identificar os principais fármacos envolvidos em reações cutâneas no idoso; por último, saber efetuar o diagnóstico e tratamento corretos dos vários problemas dermatológicos, bem como conhecer as respetivas estratégias de prevenção. Posto isto, o envelhecimento da pele é um processo degenerativo inevitável, cujos mecanismos e principais afeções devem ser amplamente compreendidos para uma melhor prestação de cuidados de saúde no doente idoso.

This work aims to collect all the information regarding the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying the aging of the skin and its main problems, but also integrate in the form of a review article, the application of scientific knowledge to clinical practice by identifying and guiding the treatment of various dermatological affections in the elderly. Regarding the methodology, it focuses on the analysis and reflection of journals and scientific articles with scientific recognition, through the use of various search engines like Pubmed, B-on, BioMedCentral, ScienceDirect, Medscape, among others, as well as articles from the repositories of CHUC and the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and other bibliographies of reference. With the increasing life expectancy, there’s a rising of dermatologic skin problems prevalence associated to aging. The skin is the biggest organ of the human body; it’s the major barrier to infectious diseases, the most important sign of health and well-being. The skin is an important organ like any other, in which frequently are shown the first signs of systemic diseases or signs if the elderly have been properly taken care of. In the elderly, the dermatologic complaints are, on most cases, pushed to second priority – even though keeping its integrity plays a major role in the prevention of more serious dermatologic problems, it provides more comfort and well-being in the elderly. This work intends to study the mechanisms of intrinsic and extrinsic aging and its prevention; to know the major complaints and symptoms of dermatologic problems in the elderly and to recognize, on due time, the alarm signs; to comprehend the most frequent diseases associated to aging; to know the dermatologic manifestations of systemic and autoimmune diseases; to know and acknowledge the most common skin problems in elderly, like pressure ulcers, stasis dermatitis, fungi, viral, bacterial infections and infestations; to know the major changes that the skin undergoes by solar exposition and recognize the many dermatologic signs of skin cancer; be acquainted with dermatologic skin reaction to drugs in the elderly; and at last, how to make the correct diagnosis and treatment of these innumerous skin problems, but also to know how to prevent them. That said, skin aging is therefore inevitable, whose mechanisms and major degenerative process affections should be widely understood for better delivery of health care in the elderly.
