On this thesis we will discuss the paradigm shift in tourism communication, focusing on two major current trends: communication 2.0 and experiential communication. It has been changing the process as the tourist is influenced, informed and decides how to book his next leisure destination. There are now multiple sources of information and newly available channels as one becomes proactively involved in the process of searching, filtering, deciding, booking and recommending his destination, as well as transportation, accommodation and other activities and experiences of leisure and fulfillness. The causes for that change in tourism communication are the new information technologies and online platforms, especially the social media. These powerful platforms for interacting, attaining and retaining clients, which include TripAdvisor, Facebook and Twitter, are now influencing the way costumers behave and requiring a new practice in tourism communication. Facing this reality, communication strategies and traditional marketing tools have been less effective. This paradigm shift requires the adaptation of those mix strategies to new types of online and offline communication. The change involves not only how and when communicating, but also what. The trend observed, is that, effective touristic communication has been progressively using more arguments, images, texts and sounds representing the experience. Therefore, after theoretical reflection, we will approach the case study of a successful tourist destination communications strategy: Tenerife. How is one of the leading and most established destinations in the world, reacting to this change in the communication paradigm?
