Representações sociais da violência entre parceiros íntimos numa amostra de estudantes do ensino superior: o género fará a diferença?

Abstract

O trabalho aqui reportado tem por objetivos primordiais investigar as crenças e representações sociais de estudantes do ensino superior acerca da Violência entre Parceiros Íntimos e averiguar a prevalência e cronicidade de comportamentos violentos na relação de namoro. A associação entre estes dois objetivos, bem como o estudo da interação de diferentes variáveis sócio-demográficas, foram explorados considerando o efeito da variável sexo. Fizeram parte do estudo 311 estudantes do ensino superior (23.2% homens e 76.8% mulheres). Os resultados espelham uma baixa legitimação dos estudantes em relação à violência entre parceiros íntimos, embora se verifiquem diferenças estatiscamente significativas entre sexo, com os homens a legitimarem mais a violência em geral. Em termos das relações de namoro, a amostra evidencia índices de violência preocupantes, embora se limitem a atos de "pequena" violência. Relativamente à interação das diferentes variáveis sócio-demográficas, foi a zona de residência que, conjuntamente com a variável sexo, se revelou estatisticamente significativa, com os sujeitos residentes na zona sul/ilhas a legitimarem mais a violência num contexto sócio-económico elevado quando comparados com os residentes na zona centro de Portugal. Em suma, os resultados obtidos remetem para a necessidade de desenvolver intervenção precoce junto dos jovens, insistindo na desmistificação de crenças que legitimam e/ou banalizam a violência, aumentando a prevenção e a consciência da seriedade deste flagelo - Violência entre Parceiros Íntimos.

The work reported here aims to investigate the primordial beliefs and social representations of higher education students about intimate partner violence and to investigate the prevalence and chronicity of violent behavior in dating relationship. The association between these two objectives, as well as the study of the interaction of different socio-demographic variables were explored considering the effect of gender. Participants were 311 undergraduate students (23.2% men and 76.8% women). The results reflect a low legitimacy of students in relation to intimate partner violence, although there are statistically significant differences between sex with men to legitimize violence more generally. In terms of dating relationships, the sample shows worrying levels of violence, but limited to acts of "small" violence. Regarding the interaction of different socio-demographic variables, was from the area which, together with gender, it was revealed statistically significant, with individuals living in the south / islands to legitimize further violence in a socio-economic costs when compared with residents in central Portugal. In short, the results indicate the need to develop early intervention with young people, insisting on demystifying beliefs that legitimize and / or trivialize violence, increasing prevention and awareness of the seriousness of this scourge – Intimate Partner Violence.
