Our thesis – The faith of Jacques Derrida in a «god to come» – stems from the statements of Jacques Derrida regarding a figure of international droit (right or law) which, according to the philosopher, can be called «god to come». Our hypo-thesis is that in this «syntagma» Derrida suggests the unconditionality and aporeticity of his thought – one that exposes itself to the wholly other, to the impossible as the deconstruction of the onto-theological horizon of western metaphysics. Thus we start by noting, in the first chapter, the singularity of deconstruction as the thought on writing and on différance, while simultaneously seeking to contrast Derrida’s thinking with other moments of interruption, within the metaphysics of presence. The second chapter will trace the absolute exposure of derridian deconstruction to the wholly other, and showing how this exposure reflects itself on his/its passion for justice beyond droit and an unconditional “giving place” to the wholly other. Finally, in the third chapter, we discuss in depth the syntagma «god to come» and its possible “meaning” within the oeuvre of the French philosopher. Syntagma that reveals Derrida’s faith in another “figure” to come of international droit and of globalization and that implies rethinking politics and democracy – we are hostages to that demand.
