Estrutura e relações familiares: Implicações para o desenvolvimento da socialização

Abstract

Esta investigação teve como objectivo estudar o papel de variáveis familiares, em particular a estrutura e as relações familiares, no desenvolvimento da socialização em crianças, na fase final da infância, e adolescentes. Para o efeito, foram formuladas três hipóteses: (1) a estrutura familiar em que os sujeitos vivem, por si só, não é uma variável significativa para o desenvolvimento da socialização; (2) a estrutura familiar em que os sujeitos vivem, por si só, é uma variável significativa para compreender as relações pais-filhos; e (3) a qualidade das relações familiares influencia o desenvolvimento da socialização. No estudo foi utilizado um questionário sócio-demográfico, o Questionnaire des Relations Parents-Enfants (QRPE, Bastin, & Delrez, 1976; Versão Portuguesa, Vaz Serra, 1987), e a Bateria de Socialização (BAS-3, Silva, Martorell, & Clemente, 1985; Versão Portuguesa, Ferreira, & Rocha, 2004). A amostra contemplou 182 crianças e adolescentes (46,2% do sexo masculino e 53,8% do sexo feminino) entre os 10 e os 19 anos de idade, a frequentarem o ensino básico, do 6º ao 9º ano de escolaridade. Os resultados, confirmaram duas das três hipóteses colocadas, possibilitando a discussão do papel da família nos processos de socialização das crianças e adolescentes.

The goal of this research was to study the effects of family variables, specifically, family structure and family relations, in the development of socialization in children and adolescents. For that purpose, three hypotheses were formulated: (1) family structure, by itself, is not a significant factor for the development of socialization; (2) family structure, by itself, is a significant factor to understand parent-child relations; (3) the quality of parent-child relations affects the development of socialization. In our study, we used a socio-demographic questionnaire, the Questionnaire des Relations Parents-Enfants (QRPE, Bastin, & Delrez, 1976; Portuguese version, Vaz Serra, 1987), and the Socialization Battery (BAS-3, Silva, Martorell, & Clemente, 1985; Portuguese version, Ferreira, & Rocha, 2004). The sample included 182 children and adolescents (46,2% male and 53,8% female) between 10 and 19 years old, attending basic school between the 6th and the 9th grade. The results confirmed two of the three hypotheses, making it possible to discuss the role of family in the children and adolescents’ socialization process.
