O Loft (n)o património industrial (d)a cidade : a reconversão em habitação no centro urbano

Abstract

Dentro da vasta área da reabilitação de edifícios, este trabalho tem como objectivo o estudo dos lofts, na tentativa de compreender a sua existência, os motivos que conduzem à manutenção pontual de edifícios industriais e o seu enquadramento na requalificação e revivificação urbanas. A questão que se coloca é a de tentar perceber o “fenómeno” loft, qual a sua identidade, a sua funcionalidade, a sua adaptabilidade aos dias de hoje, e o seu papel na cidade. Estuda-se o loft enquanto reconversão de antigos edifícios industriais, agora obsoletos, logo, regenerador de áreas urbanas importantes; enquanto modo de pensar o espaço doméstico e de habitar; e, consequentemente, como estratégia de nova habitação no centro urbano.

Within the vast area of the rehabilitation of buildings, this work has as purpose the study of lofts, in the attempt to understand its existence, the motives that lead to the punctual maintenance of industrial buildings and its fitting in the urban requalification and revivification. The question that here takes place is that of try to understand the loft “phenomenon”, which its identity, its functionality, its adaptability to the present, and its role in the city. The loft is studied as reconversion of former industrial buildings, now obsolete, therefore, regenerator of important urban areas; as long as way of think the domestic space and to inhabit; and, consequently, as strategy of new habitation in the urban center.
