In this text, I analyze how Patricio Guzmán, in Nostalgia for the Light (Nostalgia de la luz ,2010), approaches the topic of memory by a journey through Chilean geography. Starting from concepts such as landscape and melancholy, I expose some theoretical notions in the field of landscape studies, psychoanalysis and filmic studies, to reflect on the political and aesthetic potential of the filmic landscape, based on the tensions that arise through the images created by the director.
