REPRESENTAÇÕES DE 'GINGAS' NA CONTEMPORANEIDADE: LITERATURA, CULTURA E MÉDIA.

Abstract

Combining history, literature and other cultural productions is an efficient way to make historical characters and cultures known. Thus, this work reveals a little more about the historical character Rainha Ginga (17th century) and her fight for Ndongo, today Angola, against Portuguese colonization and the sovereign's strategy to ally with the Dutch to defend her people. The main objective of this study is to analyze social and cultural aspects, such as patriarchy, slavery, racism and intersectionality, experienced by female characters in two historical novels about the Angolan queen: A Rainha Ginga: e de como os africanos inventaram o mundo (2014), by José Eduardo Agualusa, and A gloriosa família: o tempo dos flamengos (1997), by Pepetela. In these works, the representation of the Angolan queen and her influence on some characters will also be analyzed. From this, I intend to show reverberations of the Angolan queen in other cultural productions, not only Angolan, such as in the visual arts, in the Brazilian carnival with samba plots that reference the Angolan queen and in real episodes of political and social life in contemporary society in different countries. This study eventually revisits other historical African queens by way of comparison with the story of Queen Ginga. This heterogeneous corpus is approached through the perspective of Cultural Studies. Finally, with all objectives achieved, it will be possible to revisit the history of the Angolan sovereign and her fight against Portuguese colonialism. Queen Ginga is a remarkable woman not only in the history of the Angolan people, but also for all Afro-descendant women around the world.

Unir história, literatura e outras produções culturais é um caminho eficiente para tornar conhecidas personagens históricas e culturas. Assim sendo, este trabalho dá a conhecer um pouco mais sobre a personagem histórica Rainha Ginga (século XVII) e sua luta pelo Ndongo, hoje Angola, contra a colonização portuguesa e a estratégia da soberana de unir-se aos holandeses para defender seu povo. O objetivo principal desta dissertação é analisar alguns aspectos sociais e culturais, tais como o patriarcado, a escravidão, o racismo e a interseccionalidade, vividos pelas personagens femininas em dois romances históricos em torno da Rainha Ginga: A rainha Ginga: e de como os africanos inventaram o mundo (2014), de José Eduardo Agualusa, e A gloriosa família: o tempo dos flamengos (1997), de Pepetela. Nestas obras, será analisada também a representação da rainha angolana e a sua influência em algumas personagens. A partir disto, pretendo mostrar reverberações da rainha angolana em outras produções culturais, não somente angolanas, como nas artes visuais, no carnaval brasileiro com sambas enredos que referenciam a rainha angolana e em episódios reais da vida política e social na sociedade contemporânea em diferentes países. Este trabalho revisita, além do mais, outras rainhas africanas históricas a modo de comparação com a história da Rainha Ginga. Este corpus heterogéneo é abordado através da perspectiva dos Estudos Culturais. Por fim, com todos os objetivos alcançados, será possível revisitar a história da soberana angolana e sua luta contra o colonialismo português. A Rainha Ginga é uma mulher marcante não só para a história do povo angolano, como também para todas as mulheres afrodescendentes ao redor do mundo.
