Argamassas tradicionais: o contexto portuense. Dissertação II

Abstract

A presente dissertação tem como objetivo principal compilar e democratizar conhecimento sobre as especificidades técnicas das argamassas em edifícios antigos da cidade do Porto, procurando a adaptação e apresentação de uma leitura intelegível aos diversos intervenientes em obras de reabilitação, reutilização e conservação de edifícios enquadrados no espaço cronológico de entre os séculos XVIII e XX do contexto geográfico portuense. O âmago e método de desenvolvimento do trabalho passa por organizar levantamentos dispersos, e pretende minimizar ações prejudiciais à conservação do património, promovendo práticas interventivas mínimas e garantindo a compatibilidade material, operacional e cultural. A dissertação almeja também compreender a estratigrafia das paredes, apontar as principais causas de degradação dos edifícios e contribuir para a preservação do património arquitetónico.A metodologia de estudo baseia-se, fundamentalmente, na revisão e análise bibliográfica. Organizando esta informação, é pretendido o desenvolvimento de tabelas qualitativas sobre a tipologia, função, materialidade e tecnologia das argamassas; e é, ainda, apresentada a composição química e quantificação aproximada de grupos mineralógicos das diversas amostras. Em adição, existe a abordagem (remetida para anexo) a uma definição livre, pessoal e cruzada com teorias pré-existentes de diversos conceitos relacionados com a intervenção, com a compreensão da teoria do restauro arquitetónico, com a definição de níveis de intervenção e com a clarificação de valores éticos e deontológicos relacionados com o restauro arquitetónico.O trabalho está estruturado em cinco capítulos. O primeiro apresenta o enquadramento, os objetivos e a pertinência do estudo, em conjunto com a metodologia de desenvolvimento e a estrutura da dissertação. O segundo, discute o contexto das matérias abordadas, o papel da reabilitação na conservação da cidade histórica do Porto e uma primeira abordagem técnica aos sistemas construtivos. O terceiro capítulo aborda as funções, materialidade e tecnologias dos revestimentos tradicionais. O quarto capítulo apresenta a sistematização das argamassas, explorando os requisitos técnicos e analisando os casos de estudo. E, por fim, o quinto capítulo conclui o trabalho, refletindo sobre a matéria que se criou ao longo da dissertação e apontando diversas perspectivas de trabalho futuro.

The main objective of this dissertation is to compile and democratize knowledge about the technical specificities of mortars in old buildings in the city of Porto, aiming to adapt and present readable information to the various stakeholders involved in the rehabilitation, reuse, and conservation of buildings dating from the 18th to the 20th centuries in the geographical context of Porto. The core and method of the work involve organizing scattered surveys and aim to minimize actions that could harm the preservation of heritage, promoting minimal intervention practices, and ensuring material, operational, and cultural compatibility. The dissertation also seeks to understand the stratigraphy of walls, identify the main causes of building degradation, and contribute to the preservation of architectural heritage.The study methodology is primarily based on literature review and analysis. By organizing this information, the development of qualitative tables on the typology, function, materiality, and technology of mortars is intended. Additionally, the chemical composition and approximate quantification of mineralogical groups in various samples are presented.Furthermore, there is an approach (referred to in the annex) to a free and personal definition, intertwined with pre-existing theories of various concepts related to intervention, the understanding of architectural restoration theory, the definition of intervention levels, and the clarification of ethical and deontological values related to architectural restoration.The work is structured into five chapters. The first chapter presents the framework, objectives, and relevance of the study, along with the development methodology and structure of the dissertation. The second chapter discusses the context of the topics addressed, the role of rehabilitation in the preservation of the historic city of Porto, and an initial technical approach to construction systems. The third chapter addresses the functions, materiality, and technologies of traditional coatings. The fourth chapter presents the systematization of mortars, exploring the technical requirements and analyzing case studies. Finally, the fifth chapter concludes the work, reflecting on the content created throughout the dissertation and pointing out various perspectives for future work.
