COVID-19 e os Profissionais Essenciais: Alteração do quotidiano e perceção de informação durante a pandemia.

Abstract

A pandemia de COVID-19 foi um fenómeno que marcou a história recente, entre 2020 e 2023 o mundo foi assoberbado com a rápida emergência e transmissão deste vírus, bem como com o surgimento de novas medidas para a colmatar. Este fenómeno realçou a necessidade de associar as ciências sociais ao estudo da pandemia e à criação de medidas para a combater, na medida em que não se revelaram apenas repercussões a nível da saúde, mas também a nível social, cultural e económico.Com a introdução de medidas preventivas surgiu a necessidade de categorizar os profissionais que saíram das suas casas para trabalhar como profissionais essenciais. Sendo que os profissionais essenciais são o tema central desta dissertação, pretende-se perceber de que forma foram afetados pela pandemia, assim sendo, os tópicos a abordar serão a escolha e confiança em diferentes fontes de informação e as alterações no seu quotidiano, bem como, a sua perceção do COVID-19 e dos seus modos de transmissão.A existência de algumas lacunas na investigação científica sobre estes profissionais torna as conclusões retiradas deste estudo centrais à discussão sobre a pandemia.Foi possível verificar que todos os profissionais essenciais entrevistados sentiram grande impacto no seu quotidiano, nas esferas do trabalho, da vida familiar e das suas atividades de lazer. Foi possível, também, auferir que as fontes de informação utilizadas são diversificadas e que a sua confiança nas mesmas varia em termos de acessibilidade e completude.

The COVID-19 pandemic was a phenomenon that has marked recent history, between the years of 2020 and 2023 the world was burdened with quick emergence and transmission of this virus, as well as, with the creation of new measures to stop its spreading. This phenomenon highlighted the necessity for the association of social sciences to the study of the pandemic and to the creation of new measures to fight it, insofar as, the repercussions of the disease were not only noted in the population’s health, but at the social, cultural, and economic levels as well.With the introduction of preventive measures came the need to categorize the people that left their homes to work as essential workers. Being the essential workers the center of this dissertation, we aim to understand the ways in which they were affected by the pandemic, that being said, the topics to study will be the choice and reliability of different information sources and the changes in their day-to-day life, as well as their perception of COVID-19 and its transmission modes.The existence of some gaps in the scientific investigation regarding these workers makes the conclusions drawn from this study central to the discussion of the pandemic.We were able to find that all of the essential workers interviewed felt a great impact in their everyday lives, in the scope of their work, their family life and their leisure. We were also able to find that the information sources utilized by them were diverse and their confidence in them varied in terms of accessability and completion.
