A Esfera Agrícola na Condição Urbana Um Projeto para Reinventar o Território do Baixo Mondego

Abstract

Esta dissertação resulta da investigação feita para atribuição do grau de Mestre em Arquitetura, cujo Atelier de Projeto, disciplina motora do curso, teve como princípio geral o lema Território e Paisagem. Para a sua realização, serviu o trabalho desenvolvido sobre o Baixo Mondego, que foi alvo de uma estratégia de regeneração territorial e urbana, desenvolvida numa primeira etapa, coletivamente, pela turma, centrada em Montemor-o-Velho.Coube-nos, na segunda etapa, trabalhar sobre as temáticas do campo e da Agricultura, pela presença relevante que têm neste território e paisagem, e por este assunto da produção alimentar ser, hoje, um dos temas absolutamente fulcrais e indissociáveis da questão urbana, pela forma como os processos, produção e o próprio ato de consumo geraram, guiaram e definiram o espaço habitado, e conduziram os modos de habitar.A investigação realizada resultou em dois princípios estruturantes e complementares: o primeiro incidiu sobre uma reflexão e aprofundamento da temática agrícola, tentando compreender como evoluíram, de facto, os processos alimentares das comunidades humanas e os respetivos modos de organização habitacional das mesmas, para depois, por consequência, avaliar como se afetaram mutuamente; Já numa segunda vertente do trabalho, propôs-se um projeto urbano, no âmbito da arquitetura, que espelhasse a investigação que o suporta, desenhando, numa parcela particular do imenso território do Baixo Mondego, uma ‘comunidade experimental’ capaz de refletir a reinvenção possível de um modelo de produção agrícola inovador. O poder transformador que esta dimensão pode vir a alcançar, no quadro do desenho e regeneração da morfologia urbano-rural, será incomensurável, com incontornáveis benefícios e consequências mobilizadoras, mormente, na condição social associada às práticas agrícolas, bem como na paisagem física e seu alavancamento de uma totalmente nova condição ambiental, com os consequentes impactes, poderosos, de natureza cultural.

This dissertation results from the research carried out for the award of Master’s degree in Architecture, whose Project Atelier, the driving discipline of the course, had as its general principle the motto Territory and Landscape. For its realization, was useful the work developed on the territory of Baixo Mondego, which was the target of a territorial and urban regeneration strategy, developed in a first stage, collectively, by the class, centered on Montemor-o-Velho.It was up to us, in the second stage, to work on the themes of the field of Agriculture, due to the relevant presence they have in this territory and landscape, and because this subject of food production is, today, one of the absolutely central and inseparable themes of the urban question, due to the way in which the processes, production and the act of consumption itself generated, guided, and defined the inhabited space, and led the ways of living. The research carried out resulted in two structuring and complementary principles: the first focused on a reflection and deepening of the agricultural theme, trying to understand how the food processes of human communities and their respective modes of housing organization evolved, and then, consequently, to evaluate how they affected each other; In a second aspect of the work, an urban project was proposed, within the scope of architecture, which mirrored the research that supports it, designing, in a particular portion of the immense territory of Baixo Mondego, an “experimental community” capable of reflecting the possible reinvention of an innovative agricultural production model. The transformative power that this dimension can achieve, within the framework of the design and regeneration of urban-rural morphology, will be immeasurable, with unavoidable benefits and mobilizing consequences, especially in the social condition associated with agricultural practices, as well as in the physical landscape and its leverage of a totally new environmental condition, with the consequent powerful impacts of a cultural nature.
