O património do Mosteiro de Jesus de Aveiro e a sua gestão (1461-1525)

Abstract

O trabalho que aqui apresentamos centra-se no estudo e análise da propriedade de bens imóveis do Mosteiro de Jesus de Aveiro (do ramo feminino da Ordem de S. Domingos) analisando o desenvolvimento da sua composição e gestão entre 1461, ano da fundação canónica desta instituição, e o termo do governo da sua terceira, e última prioresa eletiva, D. Maria de Ataíde, falecida em 1525. Nas páginas que lhe dedicamos, aborda-se o modo pelo qual os seus elementos se achavam distribuídos pelo espaço geográfico local, regional e nacional, os diversos meios através dos quais o mosteiro adquiriu a maior parte dos seus bens e quais os diferentes géneros de propriedade que caracterizavam a sua composição. Analisamos, igualmente, de que modo ao longo das primeiras seis décadas do funcionamento desta instituição, as suas prioresas procederam na exploração e administração do domínio senhorial do seu mosteiro, nomeadamente, as políticas de arrendamento, e que rendas, foros e direitos senhoriais eram cobrados aos seus foreiros; as ocasiões de venda de alguns elementos do património, e o respetivo contexto, e ainda algumas disputas que a comunidade conventual do mosteiro teve de lidar com outras entidades senhoriais no propósito de salvaguardar a posse de alguns elementos do seu património e os direitos que retinha sobre os mesmos. Finalizada a apresentação e análise dos dados recolhidos, procede-se à exposição conclusiva do tema em estudo na presente dissertação, onde também apresentam-se algumas interrogações surgidas no decurso da investigação, as quais, ao não poderem ser respondidas no âmbito desta pesquisa, poderão merecer a atenção de futuros trabalhos que se propuserem a abordar o património do Mosteiro de Jesus de Aveiro, ou alguma temática relacionada com o mesmo.

The following work centers around the study and analysis of the real estate property of the Monastery of Jesus of Aveiro (of the feminine branch of the Order of S. Dominic) and its development between the canonical foundation of this institution, in 1461, year of the foundation of this institution, and the end of its third, and last, elective prioress government, D. Maria de Ataíde, deceased in 1525. Throughout the pages that we dedicated to the subject in question, it is approached the way that the various elements that constituted the propriety of this religious institution were spread throughout the local, regional, and national geographical area, the many means through which these the monastery acquire most of its assets, and which were the different genre of property that characterize its composition. It was also analyzed in which way the prioresses of this monastery proceeded throughout the first six decades of its existence in the exploit and management of the lordly domain of this religious institution, namely, the lease policies, and which rents, fees, and manorial rights where taxed to their tenants; the occasions for the sale of some property, and the context in which it occurred, and also some legal disputes the conventual community of the monastery ad to deal with other landlord entities for the purpose of safeguarding the ownership of its property and the rights it retained over them. After the presentation and analysis of the data collected, we proceed to the conclusive exposition of the subject under study in the present dissertation, where some questions that arose during the course of the investigation are also presented, which, as they cannot be answered within the scope of this research, may deserve the attention of future works that propose to address the heritage of the Monastery of Jesus of Aveiro, or some theme related to it.
