Compreender Metáforas: Contributo para a adaptação do Teste de Compreensão de Metáforas (TCM)

Abstract

O objetivo da presente dissertação é o de contribuir para a adaptação e validação do Teste de Compreensão de Metáforas (TCM) (Figueira et al., in press), um instrumento de avaliação da capacidade de compreensão de metáforas, destinado a sujeitos entre os 9 e os 14 anos de idade. Neste sentido, para além da administração do TCM a 97 sujeitos (50 do sexo masculino e 47 do feminino) do 4o ao 9o ano de escolaridade num estabelecimento de ensino na zona centro litoral de Portugal, foi também aplicado o Teste IA (Amaral, 1966), um instrumento que possibilita a avaliação da inteligência geral dos sujeitos (Almeida, 2009, p. 1).Em termos formais, a dissertação de mestrado é composta por cinco pontos, em que, de início, fazemos uma abordagem de forma geral da linguagem, e de uma forma específica da linguagem figurativa e da consciência metalinguística. Posteriormente, descrevemos a metodologia da investigação, delineando os objetivos, caraterizando a amostra bem como os instrumentos de avaliação utilizados. Os procedimentos são abordados no terceiro ponto, indicando todas as etapas executadas ao longo da aplicação do TCM e do Teste IA. No quarto ponto evidenciamos os resultados através de uma análise descritiva e de uma análise inferencial. Terminamos a investigação com a discussão, comparando os resultados obtidos com os resultados do TCM na versão original (Pinto et al., 2006).Em termos de resultados, foi possível concluir que o nível de cotação de respostas vai aumentando com a evolução da idade.Assume-se a natureza exploratória do presente estudo, realçando assim a importância da realização de mais estudos com amostras ainda mais representativas da população portuguesa.

The purpose of this Dissertation is to contribute to the adaptation and validation of the Teste de Compreensão de Metáforas (TCM) (Figueira et al., in press), an instrument to assess the ability to understand metaphors, aimed at subjects between 9 and 14 years old. In this regard, in addition to administering the TCM to 97 subjects (50 males and 47 females) from the 4th grade to the 9th grade in a teaching institute in the central coastal zone of Portugal, the IA Test was also applied, an instrument that allows the evaluation of the subject’s general intelligence (Almeida, 2009, p.1).The master’s dissertation has five parts, of which, we begin with a general approach of language and we address figurative language and metalinguistic awareness, specifically. Then, we describe the research methodology, outlining the objectives, characterizing the subjects as well as the evaluation instruments used. The procedures are also clarified in this dissertation, indicating all the steps performed throughout the application of the TCM and IA Test. Then, we show the results through a descriptive and inferential analysis. Finally, we ended the study with a discussion, comparing the results of this investigation with those of the TCM in the original version (Pinto et al., 2006).Regarding the results, it was possible to conclude that the level of quotation of answers increases with the evolution of age.The exploratory nature of the present study is assumed, thus emphasizing the importance of conducting further studies with even more representative samples of the Portuguese Population.
