Integração do Ilhéu do Rei na Cidade de Bissau: Reabilitação do seu património industrial para espaços residenciais e turísticos.

Abstract

A dissertação de mestrado aqui apresentada teve como base o tema “Redesenhar Bissaucom Arquitetura e Infraestrutura” proposto nas disciplinas de Seminário de Investigaçãoe de Atelier de Projeto II B (DARQ/FCTUC), no ano letivo de 2019/2020. O tema édesenvolvido no âmbito do projeto “Terra-Ranca” elaborado pelo Governo da Guiné-Bissau em protocolo com o Departamento de Arquitetura da FCTUC, com a assessoriado “Ateliê NLA – Architecture Consultants”. O objeto de estudo é Bissau, capital daGuiné-Bissau, para a qual são propostas estratégias de desenvolvimento urbano earquitetónico.Consciente das diferenças culturais entre Portugal e a Guiné-Bissau, e de que ocontinente africano tem sofrido um acelerado crescimento populacional e urbano, foirealizada, numa fase inicial, uma contextualização da cidade analisando as suascaracterísticas históricas, políticas, culturais, socioeconómicas e topográficas, de formaa sustentar o desenvolvimento do projeto.A proposta é dividida em três fases de trabalho: de turma, de grupo e de propostaindividual. A abordagem inicial, de turma, foca-se no projeto de um novo meio detransporte para a cidade, o BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), visando promover uma novaorganização urbana ao longo de um eixo de desenvolvimento. Partindo desse eixopropõe-se, em grupo, outros sistemas viários, que incluem uma ponte de ligação aoIlhéu do Rei, os quais orientam e delimitam o espaço de Antula Sul, através de novosbairros residenciais e equipamentos.A ligação por via de uma ponte ao Ilhéu do Rei proporciona a revitalização do mesmocomo destino turístico, criando uma unidade hoteleira e demais infraestruturas pararesidentes e visitantes, sobretudo através da reabilitação da antiga unidade industrialda “Fula”, ali fixada em meados do século XX.Considerando a frente fluvial de Bissau e o potencial paisagístico do Ilhéu, procura-se,deste modo, ali estabelecer uma coesão entre o desenvolvimento turístico e a fixaçãode população autóctone.

The master’s thesis presented here was on the theme “Redesigning Bissau withArchitecture and Infrastructure” proposed in the disciplines of Research Seminar andProject Atelier II B (DARQ/FCTUC), in the academic year 2019/2020. The theme isdeveloped within the ambit of the “Terra- Ranca” project prepared by the Governmentof Guinea-Bissau in a protocol with the Architecture Department of FCTUC, with theassistance of “Ateliê NLA- Architecture Consultants “. The object of study is Bissau,capital of Guinea-Bissau, for which urban and architectural development strategies areproposed.Aware of the cultural differences between Portugal and Guinea-Bissau, and that Africancontinent has suffered an accelerated population and urban growth, at an initial stage,a contextualization of the city war carried out, analyzing its historical, political, cultural,socio-economic and topographic data, in order to support the development of theproject.The proposal is divided into three phases of work: class, group and individual proposal.The initial approach, by the class, focuses on the design of a new means of transport forthe city, the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), aiming to promote a new urban organization alongan axis of development. Starting from this axis, other road systems are proposed, as agroup, which include a bridge connecting the Ilhéu do Rei, which guide and delimit thespace of Antula Sul, through new residential neighborhoods and equipment’s.The connection via a bridge to the Ilhéu do Rei provides the revitalization of the sameas a tourist destination, creating a hotel unit and other infrastructures for residents andvisitors, especially through the rehabilitation of the old industrial unit of “Fula”,established there in the middle of the 20th century.Considering the river front of Bissau and the scenic potential of the Ilhéu, it is thereforesought to establish cohesion between tourist development and the settlement of thenative population there.
