Os Habitantes [In]Visíveis da Arte: Uma Investigação Artística acerca do Corpo, do Espaço, da Dor e do Desastre.

Abstract

Como artista-investigador, refletir sobre o processo operativo e encontrar um sentido nas obras artísticas por mim produzidas, são os principais objetivos deste projeto de investigação em Arte Contemporânea. Desde o início do processo, em 2018, foram realizadas novas obras plásticas e visuais, através de elementos como a fotografia, o vídeo e o desenho, procurando desenvolver um projeto que culminou em diferentes obras que são, elas próprias, matrizes possíveis de desenvolvimento de outras reflexões. As obras funcionam como um corpo de uma alma que é concetual, um discurso plástico e visual que permite diferentes interpretações à luz de quem as observa. Este trabalho teórico não pretende explicar a parte prática nem a parte prática pretende ilustrar a teoria, mas trata-se da mesma matéria intelectual comunicada de duas formas distintas. Este projeto de investigação atravessa reflexões teóricas e de práticas artísticas apoiadas em três eixos fundamentais: o uso e a perceção que o humano faz do espaço; a iminência do desastre e a morte como possibilidade; a ausência de controlo e o desastre como fenómeno de dor e sofrimento que nos atrai. Assim, o trabalho de investigação incide na realização de ensaios teóricos que se inserem em dois capítulos: 1. VER E PENSAR O ESPAÇO HUMANO NA ARTE: NOTAS SOBRE O CORPO QUE HABITA E INVADE ESPAÇOS; 2. BREVE HISTÓRIA DO DESASTRE NA ARTE: A ESTÉTICA DA DOR E A MORTE COMO POSSIBILIDADE. O terceiro e último capítulo é dedicado às obras plásticas e visuais realizadas no âmbito desta investigação e que culminou numa apresentação pública dos trabalhos na exposição “Welcome to Paradise!”, entre novembro e dezembro de 2020, no Espaço Mira, no Porto. Não pretendemos fazer uma descrição exaustiva das obras, mas antes ampliar as possibilidades de leitura dos trabalhos, seguindo a lógica concetual explorada nos dois primeiros capítulos.

As a research artist, reflecting on the operative process and finding meaning in the artistic works I produce are the main objectives of this research project in Contemporary Art. Since the beginning of the process, in 2018, new plastic and visual works have been made through photography, video and drawing, seeking to develop a project that culminated in different works that are themselves possible matrices for the development of other reflections. The artworks function as a body of a soul that is conceptual, a plastic and visual discourse that allows for different interpretations, in the light of who observes them. This theoretical work does not intend to explain the practical part, nor does the practical part intend to illustrate the theory, but it is about the same intellectual matter communicated in two different ways. This research project crosses theoretical reflections and artistic practices supported by three fundamental axes: the use and perception that humans make of space; the imminence of disaster and death as a possibility; the absence of control and the disaster as a phenomenon of pain and suffering that attracts us. Thus, this research focuses on theoretical essays that are divided into two chapters: 1. SEEING AND THINKING ABOUT HUMAN SPACE IN ART: NOTES ON THE BODY THAT INHABITS AND INVADES SPACES; 2. A BRIEF HISTORY OF DISASTER IN ART: THE AESTHETICS OF PAIN AND DEATH AS A POSSIBILITY. The third and last chapter is dedicated to the plastic and visual artworks made in the scope of this research and which culminated in a public presentation of the artworks in the exhibition "Welcome to Paradise!" from November to December 2020, at Espaço Mira, in Porto. We do not intend to make an exhaustive description of the works, but rather to expand the possibilities of reading the works, following the conceptual logic explored in the first two chapters.
