This research is a follow-up of others that had been done with the purpose of applying prestressing in timber beams, in fibers direction, so that they can be strengthened in order to have better resistance. It will be performed three trials: two of post-tension and one of pre-tension. In the pre-tension trial, the forces transmition system is made by tightening nuts in both ends of the steel bars. This has an objective: to limit the loss produced by elastic recovery and by wire penetration in the prestressing wedge. In one of the trials, the own tightening of nuts introduces tension in the steel bars; in the other, the tightening of nuts will be done with the wire in tension. In the pre-tension trial, the force transfer from the wire to the timber element is achieved by gluing the wire all along the beam length. Using extensometers we will be able to define what the adherence length of the wire is and what the tension system is. This system has already been tested; therefore it will only be done in order to verify the previous results. |
