De Volta à Vida. A Arquitetura Regenerativa face às Ameaças da Cidade Contemporânea

Abstract

Este trabalho pretende refletir sobre os possíveis contributos da arquitetura regenerativa para a resolução de problemas que ameaçam a cidade contemporânea, tais como: excesso populacional, desigualdades urbanas, problemas ambientais, pandemias, entre outros. Estes são analisados de uma perspetiva global, para a compreensão geral destas e das suas consequências.A crise ambiental é das maiores ameaças que enfrentamos atualmente, a qual impulsiona muitas outras, como catástrofes e doenças:“Humans have achieved incredible things, but we have taken the Earth to the brink. Climate change, rupturing inequalities, record numbers of people forced from their homes by conflict and crisis—these are the results of societies that value what they measure instead of measuring what they value.” (UNDP, 2020, p. III) A pandemia da Covid-19 é a ameaça que tem mais protagonismo nesta dissertação não só pela sua atualidade, mas também porque veio acentuar os problemas já existentes. Lembrando-nos de como pandemias passadas foram capazes de influenciar a forma de projetar os espaços, especialmente a nível do interior dos edifícios e urbano.O aparecimento destas doenças tem impactos irrevogáveis na cidade e esta deve estar preparada para lhes responder. “War, machine, and metropolis are all shock environments, conditions of danger where one has to be able to react quickly to protect oneself from sudden, unforeseeable threats.” (Colomina, 2018, p. 33)A regeneração é aqui percebida como uma parte fundamental para a superação dessas ameaças, esta pode ajudar a fazer com que os locais em risco se tornem mais resilientes, ecológicos, sustentáveis e salubres. É essencial que exista uma relação favorável das pessoas com as suas origens naturais, esta é capaz de trazer de volta a vida às cidades cinzentas, não só através de espaços verdes como pela oportunidade de conexão entre habitantes. Esta deve ser incentivada pelo desenho do espaço urbano, de forma a valorizá-la, promovendo assim, a Natureza e a sociabilidade como fatores fundamentais para a vivência na cidade.Deste modo, a arquitetura regenerativa surge como intermediária entre a cidade construída e o mundo natural, na procura do equilíbrio que permita assegurar uma qualidade de vida saudável. Bem como um contributo ambiental positivo e, ao mesmo tempo, superar as dificuldades da urbanidade ameaçada e ameaçadora.

This work intends to reflect on the possible contributions of regenerative architecture to the solve the threatening problems of the contemporary city, such as: overpopulation, urban inequalities, environmental problems, pandemics, among others. These are analyzed from a global perspective for a general understanding of the these and their consequences.The environmental crisis is one of the biggest threats it currently faces, which drives many others, such as disasters and diseases:“Humans have achieved incredible things, but we have taken the Earth to the brink. Climate change, rupturing inequalities, record numbers of people forced from their homes by conflict and crisis—these are the results of societies that value what they measure instead of measuring what they value.” (UNDP, 2020, p. III) The Covid-19 pandemic is the threat that has the most prominence in this dissertation, not only because of its current affairs, but also because it has accentuated the problems already existing, reminding us of how other past pandemics were able to influence the way of designing spaces, especially at the level of the interior of buildings and urban. The onset of these diseases has irrevocable impacts on the city, and it must be prepared to answer them. “War, machine, and metropolis are all shock environments, conditions of danger where one has to be able to react quickly to protect oneself from sudden, unforeseeable threats.” (Colomina, 2018, p. 33)Regeneration is perceived here as a key part to overcome these threats, it can help to make at-risk sites more resilient, ecological, sustainable, and healthy. It is essential that a favorable relationship exists between people and their natural origins, bringing life back to grey cities, not only through green spaces but also through the connectivity between inhabitants. The Nature should be encouraged by the design of the urban space, valuing it, thus promoting sociability as fundamental factors for living in the city.Thus, regenerative architecture emerges as an intermediary between the built city and the natural world, in the search for a balance that allows to ensure a healthy quality of life. As well as a positive environmental contribution and, at the same time, overcome the difficulties of a threatened and threatening urbanity.
