do Pulo do Lobo, Complexo Vulcano-Sedimentar e Grupo Flysch do Baixo Alentejo)
Remote sensing is an extremely useful tool for detailed geological mapping in areas with potential interest for the geological resources exploration, namely hydrocarbons. The main purpose of this work is the analysis from the tectonic and stratigraphic point of views of the different domains of the South Portuguese Zone (Beja-Acebuches Ophiolitic Complex, Pulo do Lobo Terrain, Vulcano-Sedimentar Complex and Baixo Alentejo Flysch Group) using Remote Sensing methodologies and techniques. To this end, Landsat 8 imagery, from UGSG and NASA, acquired in January and May 2014, were analysed through spectral processing methods (correlation coefficients, “Band Ratio”, principal component analysis) which have allowed the design of RGB composite images based on the different bands of OLI sensors. Altimetry data from SRTM and ASTER GDEM were also used, which enabled the development of a Digital Elevation Model. Those images were filtered and processed based on the characteristic spectral signature of the different materials, or through the analysis of the characteristic slopes of the study area. The obtained results allowed the differentiation of several structural lineaments systems interpreted at the raster maximum resolution scale (1:100 000). The lineaments, usually unclear in the published geological mapping, display an approximated trend of NWSE, WNW-ESE and NE-SW. Moreover, they show, in general, good correlation with the structural features that characterize the South Portuguese Zone. The type of analysis developed in this study, proves, therefore, to be rather promising to deepen the understanding of the geology of the South Portuguese Zone and its resources. In addition, the methodology used is also applicable to other analogous geological settings. |
