In 2008, B.Podobnik and H.E.Stanley proposed a new method to analyze non-stationary time series, the Detrended Cross-Correlation Analysis (DCCA).This method is a generalization of the Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA) method, taking as its basis the calculation of a "detrended covariance".In 2011, G.F.Zebende proposed a new correlation coefficient with the objective to quantifying the level of cross-correlation between two non-stationary time series. This new correlation coefficient, $\rho_{DCCA}$, is defined in terms of the variance calculated by the DFA method and of the covariance calculated by the DCCA method. Also in 2011, B.Podobnik and co-authors presented some properties of the correlation coefficient obtained by the DCCA method.L.Kristoufek showed, through simulations, that the correlation coefficient calculated by the DCCA method produces good estimates of the correlation between innovations to time series, at least in the cases studied by Kristoufek. The main purpose of this dissertation is to extend the analysis done by Kristoufek to more cases, with particular attention paid to the (non-)stationarity of the time series. Thus, the performance of the DCCA method (in finite samples) is evaluated for different combinations of the parameters of the ARFIMA model used to generate the series, such as the parameters of the moving average and autoregressive components, and the order of integration of each variable. The results generally confirm the main idea conveyed by Kristoufek's work, namely that the correlation coefficient calculated by the DCCA method performs well when estimating the correlation between the innovations of the series. However, there are certain cases where this is not so, suggesting the need to further analyze the properties of the correlation coefficient calculated by the DCCA method.
