The main goal of this dissertation is to analyze the relevance of the non-current assets held for sale in the asset structure of Portuguese listed companies and the explanatory variables for recognition of this type of assets. Therefore, it is important to understand how the period of the financial crisis that started in 2008, influenced companies to reclassify tangible fixed assets and intangible assets without use as non-current assets held for sale as a way of to improve liquidity, considering the financial difficulties of this period. A period of 14 years, that includes the annual interval from 2005 to 2018, will be considered. This period will be divided into subperiods. This study is characterized by a quantitative work through descriptive analysis and regression techniques with panel data. For this purpose, it was used statistical models that were estimated, in which the ratio of non-current assets held for sale in the total assets constituted the dependent variable. Regarding to the sample, is it composed by issuers of listed securities admitted to public trading, with a total of 29 companies. The interpretation of the statistical data was performed by using the GRETL software. The main results reveal an impact of the financial crisis and post-crisis on the recognition of non-current assets held for sale. We also conclude that non-current assets held for sale are not a key element in cash management. Finally, the explanatory variables have the expected sign but are not significant.
