Organizational performance management: Trends, challenges, and solutions

Abstract

Business organizations have been undergoing major changes to respond to increased market competition over the past 30 years. During this period, managers of these organizations have often witnessed the transformation of science fiction into technological reality. People working in these organizations had to make a huge effort to adapt to the new realities that are spreading throughout society. In this context, the performance measurement and management approach has also changed from the individual perspective to the organizational perspective. The purpose of this chapter is to present the evolution of performance measurement and management, the research trends, the challenges managers and researchers are facing, as well as solutions to overcome some of these challenges.
