dc.description.abstract | In the Information Society, Network Bit or Knowledge, mobile phones, televisions, autonomous cars, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things, are the result of an increasing control of what Information is. All the information we use is, ultimately, represented by bits, processed by computers, stored on various media, transmitted over networks. However, no matter how intelligent computers and technically sophisticated networks are, it will still be necessary to act in the physical world, to respond to economic, energy, environmental and social challenges. This study aims to analyze the contemporary digital information reality. The specific objectives are: contextualize the current society in informational terms; discuss information policies; identify the main changes of the information consumer; expose what AI is; highlight the relevant points where AI affects (will affect) Information Services (IS). The methodological procedures adopted are of a qualitative nature, and of a descriptive-exploratory type. Of the results obtained, the following stand out: societal changes, from the analog to the digital world; AI tools are used in our daily lives; United States of America (USA) and China compete to dominate the AI area; China and the United States invest considerably more in the development of intelligent systems and are the countries that accumulate most information for millions of people; European Union focuses on defining rules for these autonomous systems, so that they are fair, ethical, impartial, that human beings can control them; information policies are reflected in new practices of access, consumption, sharing and in a change in the informational habits of individuals; AI affects IS and its tools are very useful to the information professional. It is recognized that we are witnessing a technological revolution that is advancing rapidly in a globalized world. Our ability to obtain, process, use and make information and services available in an intelligent way will certainly be one of the driving factors of digital transformation in the coming decades. | eng |
