Abstract

Looking at the current state of the city of Lisbon, the present essayproposes foundations to lay the groundwork for critical discoursewhich considers the need to consolidate its urban areas. The fragmentationof these spaces, unable to communicate or establish anykind of relationship with the city, leads to Marvila and Beato disintegrationwith the rest of the urban land which makes pertinent thereflection about the void marked by wear and tear and the decay ofan industrial and port heritage, which, long ago, was settled betweenthese parishes and the river.The spaces in question, resulting from this separation, as placesof opportunity, work as motto to the premises to the current workwhich, on an urban scale, are regulated by the consolidation of theterritory that is now claimed for the domain of the city.The regeneration of the industrial group seeks to respond to thefunctional issues of local demand, as well as social needs and limit ofpublic space, in order to understand and associate to Lisbon specificidentity, as a stimulus to the memory of this atypical place with itshistory.With regard to requalification, it is intended to counteract this propensity,when intervening in the problematic of current urban voids,proposing new ways of living which communicate among the severalexisting hiatus voids, valuing the pre-existing industrial group.In this sense, the present work seeks to report the growing degradationfrom the riverside of Lisbon and its consequent divorce betweenthe river and the city. So, our goal is to understand the riverside ofMarvila – delimiting the study zone to the area between the port landfilland the Silopor terminal- and to develop a practical project, ableto solve its formal and structural needs. The projection of a market,by requalifying the warehouses of the Beato multi-purpose terminal,emerges as a redefinition of the urban dynamics that connect thecity and the population.

Num olhar sobre o atual estado da cidade de Lisboa, o presente ensaiopropõe-se lançar bases para um discurso crítico que considerea necessidade de consolidação das suas áreas urbanas. A fragmentaçãodestes espaços, incapazes de comunicar ou estabelecer quaisquertipos de relação com a cidade, leva à desintegração de Marvilae Beato com o restante tecido urbano - o que torna pertinente a reflexãosobre o vazio marcado pelo desgaste e pela decadência de umpatrimónio industrial e portuário que, há muito, se instalou entreestas freguesias e o rio.Os espaços em questão, resultantes desta separação, enquanto lugaresde oportunidade, funcionam como mote às premissas do presentetrabalho que, à escala urbana, são regulados pela consolidaçãodo território que é agora reclamado para o domínio da cidade.A regeneração do conjunto Industrial procura responder às questõesfuncionais da demanda do local, bem como às necessidades sociaise de limite do espaço público, com intuito de procurar compreendere associar-se à identidade específica de Lisboa como estímuloà memória deste lugar atípico com a sua história.No âmbito do tema da requalificação, pretende-se, pois, contrariaresta propensão, ao intervir na problemática dos vazios urbanosatuais, propondo novas formas de habitar que comuniquem entreos diversos vazios existentes, valorizando o conjunto industrial preexistente.Neste sentido, o presente trabalho procura denunciar a crescentedegradação da frente ribeirinha de Lisboa e do consequente divórcioentre o rio e a cidade. Assim, o nosso objetivo é o de entender a zonaribeirinha de Marvila – delimitando a zona de estudo à área compreendiaentre o aterro portuário e o terminal Silopor – e desenvolverum projeto prático, capaz de resolver as suas necessidades formais eestruturais. A projeção de um mercado, requalificando os armazénsdo terminal multiusos do Beato, surge como redefinição das dinâmicasurbanas que conectam a cidade e a população.
