Ansiedade em Odontopediatria: contributo para a validação doquestionário Children's Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscalena população Portuguesa

Abstract

Introduction: The anxiety and fear of children constitute a limitation in the collaboration and successful treatments in Pediatric Dentistry and its correct measurement through instruments, such as the CFSS-DS questionnaire, is essential for adequacy and optimization of these same treatments.Objectives: To conduct a bibliographic narrative review that will serve as a basis for testing and evaluating some basic psychometric characteristics of the Children's Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscale (CFSS-DS), one of the most accepted questionnaires regarding the evaluation of anxiety in children, contributing to the consubstantiation of their future use and validation (Portuguese, Portugal).Materials and Methods: A search was conducted on PubMed / MEDLINE using the terms "Reproducibility of Results", "Children's Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscale", "CFSS-DS" and "Dental Anxiety", selectively conjugated, considering publications in English / Portuguese, from 1982 to 2019 and abstract available. At the same time, a sample (n = 71 (11 + 60)) of children attending the Pediatric Dentistry appointments of FMUC answered the 15 questions of the CFSS-DS, before and after dental treatment, with subsequent data analysis to test their reliability and validity, essential to the objective of later validation.Results: From the selected search key a total of 40 articles were selected, mainly clinical studies. Statistical analysis of the data allowed us to verify that the questionnaire is consisted of more than one construct, some questions are not contributing to the measurement of none of them and others need to be reviewed.Discussion and Conclusions: The CFSS-DS questionnaire, although widely accepted and considered valid in several countries, and taking into account the results of this preliminary study, may benefit from the reformulation of some items that constitute it, in order to contribute in the future to obtain a valid model for application in the portuguese population, characterized by greater ease of application and objectivity in the results obtained, aiming at a more reliable measurement of anxiety in children.

Introdução: A ansiedade e o medo das crianças constituem uma limitação na colaboração e execução com sucesso dos tratamentos em Odontopediatria, sendo a sua correta mensuração através de instrumentos, de que é exemplo o questionário CFSS-DS, essencial para adequação e otimização desses mesmos tratamentos.Objetivos: Efetuar uma revisão bibliográfica narrativa que sirva de base para, paralelamente, testar e avaliar algumas características psicométricas básicas do Children's Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscale (CFSS-DS), um dos questionários mais aceites referente à avaliação da ansiedade em crianças. contribuindo para a consubstanciação da sua utilização e validação (português, Portugal) futuras.Materiais e Métodos: Foi conduzida uma esquisa na PubMed/MEDLINE utilizando os termos “Reproducibility of Results”, “Children's Fear Survey Schedule-Dental Subscale”, “CFSS-DS” e “Dental Anxiety”, conjugados seletivamente, considerando publicações em inglês/português, de 1982-2019 e resumo disponível. Concomitantemente, uma amostra (n=71 (11+60)) de crianças frequentadoras da consulta de Odontopediatria da FMUC responderam às15 questões do CFSS-DS, antes e após tratamento dentário, com posterior análise dos dados visando testar a sua fiabilidade e validade, essenciais ao objetivo de validação posterior.Resultados: A partir da chave de pesquisa determinada selecionou-se no total 40 artigos, maioritariamente estudos clínicos. A análise estatística dos dados, tendo em conta a amostra de crianças deste estudo, permitiu verificar que o questionário demonstrou ser constituído por mais do que um constructo, algumas questões não estão a contribuir para a mensuração de nenhum deles e outras necessitam de ser revistas.Discussão e Conclusões: O questionário CFSS-DS, apesar de amplamente aceite e considerado válido em diversos países, e tendo em consideração os resultados deste estudo preliminar, poderá beneficiar de reformulação de alguns itens que o constituem, de forma a contribuir para que, no futuro e em próximos trabalhos, se consiga obter um modelo válido para aplicação na população portuguesa, caracterizado por maior facilidade de aplicação e objetividade nos resultados obtidos, visando uma mensuração mais fidedigna da ansiedade em crianças.
