As paisagens literárias na obra de Jorge Amado: navegando com(o) turcos à descoberta da América

Abstract

A relação entre a Geografia e a Literatura é bilateral: por um lado os escritores tomam o espaço como referência para a concepção e estruturação das suas obras; por outro os geógrafos compreendem dinâmicas territoriais através de pistas literárias. Dessa forma, a escrita ficcional, como instrumento de trabalho, ganha importância no contexto técnico, assim como no plano didáctico. Tendo como base analítica o quadro teórico estruturante dos sistemas migratórios transatlânticos, pretende-se reflectir sobre alguns pontos específicos dos percursos geográficos, sociais e económicos da emigração árabe para o Brasil, no início do século XX, tendo como base “A descoberta da América pelos Turcos” (1994), de Jorge Amado.

The relation between Geography and Literature is bilateral: on the one hand, writers take space as reference to the conception and structuring of their works; on the other hand geographers understand territorial dynamics through literary clues. This way, fictional writing, as a work tool, gains importance in the technical context as well as in the teaching plan. In the specific case of transatlantic migrations, basing analytically on the theoretical structuring board of transatlantic migration systems, it is intended to reflect over some specific points of the geographic, social and economic paths of Arab emigration to Brazil, in the beginning of the 20th century, having as base “A descoberta da América pelos Turcos” (The discovery of America by the Turks) [1994] by Jorge Amado.
