Keywords: | sistemas transdérmicos; pele; administração transdérmica; quality by design; métodos promotores de permeação; transdermal patch; skin; transdermal drug delivery; quality by design; permeation enhancement methods | Issue Date: | 19-Sep-2019 | Serial title, monograph or event: | Desenvolvimento farmacêutico de sistemas transdérmicos: estratégias e oportunidades | Place of publication or event: | Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade de Coimbra; Farmácia Machado e Hospital de Braga | Abstract: | Os sistemas transdérmicos são formas farmacêuticas para aplicação na pele, com o objetivode exercer uma ação terapêutica sistémica. Transdermal patches are dosage forms applied on skin, aiming at exerting a systemic therapeuticeffect. Their good patient acceptability and advantages over conventional routes of administration have motivated the investigation of this alternative drug delivery system. However, due to the development complexity and the difficulty these compounds show in crossing the skin, they only account for 0.50 % of the pharmaceutical market. Therefore, it is important to know the role of skin in this type of administration, how a transdermal patch works and how it can be improved. This will make it possible to understand the opportunity these products represent and the applications they may have.Transdermal patches are dosage forms applied on skin, aiming at exerting a systemic therapeuticeffect.
