dc.description.abstract | Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a disabling disease characterized by inflammation, demyelination and neurodegeneration in the Central Nervous System (CNS), affecting millions of people around the world.Although the etiology is not fully understood, genetic factors, environmental factors, dietary factors and daily habits contribute to the development of this pathology. In general, the mechanisms inherent to the development of the disease are associated with the activation of auto reactive T cells, which are responsible for recognizing endogenous antigens, namely antigens of viruses or bacteria. When this cellular activation occurs, T cells invade the CNS, triggering a cascade of inflammation, which leads to the production of proinflammatory cytokines, and lesion formation. The treatment of MS involves immunomodulatory, oral and injectable therapies, which over the years have been renewed and improved, due to the appearance of new molecules more effective and safe.More recently, curcumin has been studied as a strong candidate in MS therapy, since this component of Curcuma Longa has potent anti-inflammatory effects, of great interest, from the clinical point of view. . | eng |
. | por |
