As cortes no reino de Portugal: antecedentes e concretizações

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the articulation of the royalty with its government body par excellence, the “Curia” ( king’s court), and later with the “Cortes” (parliament), throughout the reigns of Sancho I (1185-1211), Afonso II (1211-1223), Sancho II (1223-1248) and Afonso III (1248-1279). This study will, thus, highlight the most relevant aspects of the political course that, from the gathering of the ”Curia”, culminated with the summoning of the “Cortes” in the Kingdom of Portugal.
