O impacto da inovação tecnológica na estrutura de emprego - Paul Stricker, S.A.

Abstract

As inovações tecnológicas têm sido uma constante ao longo dos tempos, assim como o debate acerca do impacto destas na estrutura de emprego. Sendo previsível que as inovações nas mais diversas áreas de atividade económica sejam, cada vez mais, uma realidade e que surjam, com o tempo, novos processos e novos mecanismos capazes de substituir (ou complementar) a “mão humana”, o principal objetivo deste relatório passa, em primeiro lugar, por analisar os principais resultados apresentados pela literatura referentes ao efeito quantitativo e qualitativo da inovação sobre o emprego, de acordo com os skills dos trabalhadores, complementando com resultados empíricos relevantes. É também realizada uma breve análise macroeconómica para Portugal, de forma a descrever a evolução dos principais indicadores agregados disponíveis, recorrendo à base PORDATA. Em terceiro lugar, com este relatório pretende-se também caraterizar a entidade de acolhimento e as atividades desenvolvidas ao longo do estágio curricular realizado no Departamento de Compras da Paul Stricker, S.A., entre 1 de Fevereiro e 11 de Junho de 2018. A justificação do tema escolhido prende-se com o papel proeminente que a inovação e o peso da mão-de-obra qualificada assumem nesta organização. De modo geral, verifica-se que a inovação, nas suas diversas vertentes, tem exercido uma influência cada vez maior nas organizações, com impactos quantitativos e qualitativos na estrutura de emprego, que variam de acordo com as especificidades de cada país e de cada empresa – o que não permite, por isso, uma visão transversal e única acerca desta temática.

Technological innovations have been a constant over time, as has the debate over their impact on the employment structure. It is predictable that innovations in the most diverse areas of economic activity will increasingly become a reality and that, over time, new processes and new mechanisms will emerge capable of replacing (or complementing) the "human hand".This report is to analyze the main empirical results presented by the literature concerning the quantitative and qualitative effect of innovation on employment, according to the skills of the workers, complementing with relevant empirical results. A brief macroeconomic analysis is also carried out for Portugal, in order to describe the evolution of the main aggregate indicators available, using the PORDATA database. Thirdly, this report also intends to characterize the host organization and the activities developed during the curriculum internship held in the Department of Purchasing of Paul Stricker, S.A., from 1 February to 11 June 2018. The justification of the chosen theme is related to the prominent role that innovation and the weight of the skilled workforce assume in this organization. In general, it has been verified that innovation in its various aspects has exerted an increasing influence in the organizations, with quantitative and qualitative impacts in the structure of employment, that vary according to the specifics of each country and each company - not allowing, therefore, a transversal and unique view on this theme.
