A cobertura mediática da violência contra as mulheres: o caso do Correio da Manhã

Abstract

A violência contra as mulheres em ambiente doméstico possui uma série de características específicas que a diferenciam de outros tipos de agressão e abuso. Dentro dessas características, pode-se incluir o espaço em que ela ocorre, os sujeitos envolvidos, e o conjunto de fatores psicológicos que estão em questão e que contribuem para a complexidade do problema, podendo obscurecer o seu significado e perceção. A maior parte das agressões sofridas pelas mulheres é decorrente de conflitos interpessoais, o que acaba por merecer pouca atenção da generalidade da sociedade e a sua exposição causa embaraço às próprias mulheres que a sofrem.Apesar dos progressos legislativos, as mulheres ainda continuam restritas no exercício dos seus direitos devido à resistência ideológica que perpetua a discriminação passada e que, portanto, impede a afirmação dos direitos existentes hoje.O papel dos media na erradicação da violência de género é valorizado, assim como o seu contributo para tornar visíveis e socialmente pertinentes, as experiências mais complexas vividas pelas mulheres em privado. Ao denunciarem os maus tratos e agressões a mulheres, os media incorporam o problema no discurso público, podendo dar voz não apenas às autoridades mas também a especialistas e pessoas envolvidas, e sobretudo às mulheres agredidas, o que encorajará outras vítimas a denunciar essas situações e a procurar ajuda junto das entidades competentes. No entanto, muitas vezes este tema é também tratado de uma forma superficial, banal e mesmo sensacionalista, levando à naturalização da violência e transmitindo a ideia de que este problema continua a acontecer apenas em casos particulares e privados e não é uma questão da sociedade em geral.
