O Traje e a Moda na arte em Portugal nos séculos XIV e XV: características e representações

Abstract

O presente trabalho aborda o tema do traje e da moda no âmbito da arte em Portugal nos séculos XIV e XV. Por fazer parte de pontos importantes do desenvolvimento histórico e cultural das sociedades, nesta investigação, a questão do traje discorre principalmente com a finalidade de esplanar acerca do surgimento da «moda» no contexto europeu. Objeto de estudo ainda pouco desenvolvido no caso português, foram analisadas peças com relevantes informações acerca do traje feminino usado neste período no país. Partindo da contextualização acerca da representação feminina na arte gótica e da condição da mulher na Idade Média, é abordado neste estudo principalmente a importância da investigação acerca do vestuário e da moda e é feita uma descrição da composição do traje feminino no contexto europeu no final da Idade Média, onde as denominações das peças do vestuário descritas são retiradas de traduções da bibliografia estrangeira utilizada. Por fim, é feita a análise de peças de ouriversaria, tumulária e escultura de referência na arte portuguesa, de onde tirou-se conclusões decisivas acerca do vestuário feminino em Portugal nos séculos XIV e XV, nomeadamente Imagens femininas de Mestre Pêro (1º metade do séc. XIV); Imagem Relicário da Virgem com Menino (séc. XIV); Túmulo de Maria de Vilalobos (1349-67); Túmulo de Inês de Castro (c. 1360);e por fim, o Túmulo de Filipa de Lencastre (c. 1430), onde pode-se observar quais as principais influências e características. É ainda elucidada a relevância do estudo do traje a da moda no contexto da História da arte, na medida em que faz parte de pontos importantes do desenvolvimento histórico e cultural português.

The present work deals with the theme of costume and fashion in the field of art in Portugal in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Being part of important points of the historical and cultural development of societies, the issue of costume is mainly discussed in this investigation with the purpose of discussing about the emergence of fashion in the European context. A subject still sparsely developed in the Portuguese case, were analyzed pieces with relevant information about the feminine dress used in this period in the country. Based on the contextualisation of female representation in Gothic art and the condition of women in the Middle Ages, this study mainly addresses the importance of research on clothing and fashion and describes the composition of women's attire in the European context at the end of the Middle Ages, where the denominations of garments described are taken from translations of the foreign bibliography used. Finally, the analysis of pieces of jewelry, tombstone and sculpture of reference in Portuguese art was made, from which decisive conclusions were drawn about women's clothing in Portugal in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, namely Female Images of Mestre Pêro (1st half of the 14th century); Image Reliquary of the Virgin with Child (14th century); Tomb of Maria de Vilalobos (1349-67); Tomb of Inês de Castro (c.1360), and finally Tomb of Filipa de Lencastre (c.1430), where one can observe the main influences and characteristics. It is also elucidated the relevance of the study on costume and fashion in the context of art history, as it is part of important points of portuguese historical and cultural development.
