Dependência Generalizada da Internet (EDGInt) e Atividades Desenvolvidas na Internet (EADInt) pelos adultos portugueses: estudos psicométricos de duas escalas

Abstract

A literatura indica um aumento no número mundial de utilizadores de internet (Internet World Stats, 2018). Considerando que um uso excessivo da internet pode estar associado a uma interferência no funcionamento diário do indivíduo (Weinstein & Lejoyeux, 2010), o presente trabalho tem como objetivo o desenvolvimento e estudo psicométrico da Escala de Dependência Generalizada da Internet (EDGInt) e da Escala das Atividades Desenvolvidas na Internet (EADInt). A amostra total do presente estudo é composta por 858 adultos portugueses, 357 do género masculino (41.6 %) e 501 do género feminino (58.4 %), com idades compreendidas entre os 20 e 59 anos. Em relação à EDGInt, a Análise Fatorial Confirmatória (AFC) comprovou a estrutura fatorial do modelo teórico, considerando os bons valores dos índices da qualidade de ajustamento, dos pesos fatoriais e fiabilidades individuais e validade de construto. No que concerne à EADInt, a Análise Fatorial Exploratória (AFE) indicou um modelo de seis fatores e a Análise Fatorial Confirmatória (AFC) corroborou a estrutura obtida a AFE, tendo em consideração os bons indicadores de adequação do modelo e a presença de uma consistência interna excelente (α ≥.80) na maior parte dos fatores do instrumento. Estas escalas possibilitam um melhor conhecimento sobre a dependência da internet, as atividades que os adultos portugueses realizam na internet e a sua frequência, podendo contribuir para o rastreio de indivíduos com dependência e para melhorar a avaliação de sujeitos integrados em programas de prevenção e intervenção relacionados com o uso excessivo da internet.

The literature indicates an increase in the number of internet users worldwide (Internet World Stats, 2018). Considering that an excessive use of the internet may be associated with an interference in the normative functioning of the individual (Weinstein & Lejoyeux, 2010), the present study aims to develop and research the psychometric properties of the Generalized Internet Dependency Scale (EDGInt) and the Activities Developed on the Internet Scale (EADInt). The total sample of the present study is composed of 858 Portuguese adults, 357 males (41.6%) and 501 females (58.4%), aged between 20 and 59. In relation to EDGInt, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) confirmed the factorial structure of the theoretical model, considering the good index values of adjustment quality, individual factor weights, reliability and construct validity. Regarding the EADInt, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) indicated a six-factor scale model and the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) confirmed the EFA structure, taking into account the good index values of the adjustment quality of the model, the presence of an excellent internal consistency (α ≥.80) in the majority of factors. These scales will allow a better understanding of internet dependency, the activities that Portuguese adults perform on the internet and how frequently they perform them. It may contribute to the screening of individuals with this problem and improve the evaluation of subjects integrated in prevention and intervention programs related to the excessive use of the internet.
