The main goal of the present investigation is to contribute to the knowledge of the Chalcolithic individuals exhumed from the Perdigões Archaeological Complex (Reguengos de Monsaraz). The osteological material was unearthed from the Corridor and the Atrium of Tomb 2, dated to the mid/third quarter of the 3rd millennium BC.The analyses were conditioned by the fragmentation of the sample, as well as by the concretions in the cortical surface of the several bones. Several bone fragments showed the presence of red pigment, whose chemical analysis showed was mostly cinnabar. The several approaches used to analyse the type of burial were inconclusive. The only articulation recovered was a foot from Phase 2i of the Atrium. However, bones from all the regions of the skeleton, including carpal bones and one hyoid bone, from adults and non-adults individuals were presents. It is expected that with the conclusion of the study of all bone remains recovered from this tomb, a more thorough interpretation is achieved of the funerary practices that occurred there. The estimative of the total MNI is of 26 individuals, 16 adults and ten non-adults. The presence of adults (including six young adults), and non-adults individuals from all age groups was identified. The sample includes individuals from both sexes, and five female individuals and three masculine individuals were identified. The presence of robust bones from all the regions of the skeleton stands out, including manubrium, clavicle, humerus, femur and tibia. In scope of the analysis of the discrete traits the presence of septal aperture (2/3) and the absence of the anterior facet in calcaneus (4/12) also stands out. At a pathological level, all recorded cases of arthroses are of degree 1, including in the proximal end of the right ulna (2/7), in the left calcaneus (3/7) and in the manubrium (1/5). The enthesophaties show low severity, mostly of degree 1, with only one case of degree 2 lesion, identified in a left patella (1/12). The detected trauma cases are scarce as are remodelled fractures in feet bones [phalanges (n=212) and 4th right metatarsal (n=8)], in one metacarpal and in the diaphysis of one right humerus (n=6). No cariogenic lesions were detected (0/213) as well as antemortem tooth loss (0/26). The average dental wear is 1.63 (n=213) and the deposits of dental calculus are mostly vestigial (48/212). Three teeth display enamel hypoplasia (n=212), all of them under the form of one horizontal line. Whenever possible, we tried to compare the results of this investigation with the results obtained with coeval series, to contribute to the knowledge of the pre-historic Portuguese populations.eng
