Title: | Influência da microbiota intestinal na obesidade | Other Titles: | Influence of intestinal microbiota in obesity | Authors: | Ramos, Alexandra Cardoso | Orientador: | Gomes, João Pedro Figueiredo Santos, Lélita Conceição |
Keywords: | Obesidade; Microbiota gastrointestinal; Excesso de peso; Dieta; Obesity; Gastrointestinal microbiome; Overweight; Diet | Issue Date: | 7-Jun-2018 | Serial title, monograph or event: | INFLUÊNCIA DA MICROBIOTA INTESTINAL NA OBESIDADE | Place of publication or event: | Faculdade de Medicina, Universidade de Coimbra | Abstract: | O tracto gastrointestinal humano acolhe no seu interior triliões de microrganismos, em especial bactérias, que constituem a microbiota intestinal. ABSTRACT: The human intestinal gut is home to trillions of microorganisms, in particular bacteria, which compose the intestinal microbiota. They maintain a symbiotic relationship with the host and play an essential role in the regulation of innumerable metabolic and immune mechanisms, participating in digestion and providing them with nutrients, modulating the development of the immune system and protecting from infectio, thereby contributing to the maintenance of health. In several studies with mice and humans, it has been found that a deregulation of the microbiota composition in obese individuals is present. Despite its great complexity, several mechanisms have been proposed for the relationship between this imbalance and the development of obesity. In this review, we study the modification factors of the composition of the intestinal microbiota and discussed several hypothesis about obesity and gut microbiome. In addition, we debated a number of promising treatment strategies of obesity using gut microbiome.
