Alterações das variáveis cefalométricas nos diferentes grupos étnicos.

Abstract

Introdução: O diagnóstico e plano de tratamento de pacientes ortodônticos de diferentes etnias requer um padrão cefalométrico diferenciado, tendo em conta as características craniofaciais inerentes à etnia em estudo. Desta forma, a individualização das normas cefalométricos para as diferentes raças é de extrema relevância.Objetivo: Realizar uma revisão da literatura científica com a finalidade de avaliar as diferenças das normas cefalométricas entre indivíduos caucasianos e negros.Metodologia: Foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica recorrendo às seguintes bases de dados primárias PubMed/MEDLINE, ScienceDirect e EBSCOhost. Foram utilizadas as seguintes palavras-chave: “orthodontic”; “cephalometric study”; “population”; “ethnic study” combinadas e associadas com conectores boleanos “AND” e “OR. Os limites da pesquisa estabelecidos foram estudos realizados em humanos, em língua portuguesa ou inglesa e com data de publicação entre março de 2007 e março de 2017.Resultados: Foram recolhidos 279 estudos. Destes, 19 artigos foram considerados com potencial interesse. Após a leitura integral e a aplicação dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, 12 foram eliminados. Das 7 publicações aceites, apenas 5 cumpriram com os critérios da pesquisa e obtiveram uma avaliação positiva nos formulários CASP. Conclusão: Apesar dos estudos cefalométricos comparativos entre população caucasiana e negra serem diminutos, pode-se concluir através desta revisão sistemática que as normas cefalométricas diferem nos valores de SNA, SNB e ANB, traduzindo-se num maior prognatismo maxilar e mandibular na população africana. No entanto, mais estudos são necessários por forma a aferir qual a relação entre as variáveis das normas cefalométricas nas diferentes raças.

Introduction: The diagnosis and treatment plan of orthodontic patients of distint ethnicities requires a differentiated cephalometric pattern, taking into account the craniofacial characteristics inherent to the study ethnicity. Hence, the individualization of cephalometric norms for the different races is extremely relevant.Objective: To conduct a systematic review to evaluate differences in cephalometric norms between caucasian and african race.Methodology: A research was developed over the following primary electronic databases PubMed/MEDLINE, ScienceDirect and EBSCOhost. A search strategy was made using the English terms: "orthodontic"; "Cephalometric study"; "Population"; "Ethnic study" combined and associated with "AND" and "OR" boolean connectors. These search was limited limited to randomized controlled trials, cohort studies, systematic review and meta-analysis, in Portuguese and English, performed in humans and regarding articles published between March 1st 2007 and March 1st 2017.Results: In this review, a total of 279 articles were identified, 19 of which were considered potentially relevant. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 7 publications were accepted. Among these, only 5 had a positive result after the CASP quality assessment and therefore were included in this study.Conclusions: Although the comparative cephalometric studies between the Caucasian and the Black population are small, it can be concluded from this systematic review that the cephalometric norms differ in the values of ANS, SNB and ANB, resulting in a greater maxillary and mandibular prognathism in the African population. However, more studies are needed in order to ascertain the relationship between the variables of the cephalometric norms in the different races.
